John McKinzie is the founding and lead pastor of Hope Fellowship in Frisco, Texas. Before his time with Hope, he was a student pastor in Irving, Texas, Pampa, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee, for 13 years.

According to Outreach Magazine, Hope Fellowship is one of the fastest growing churches in the nation. In one decade, it has grown from a small church plant of less than 100 people to a multi-site ministry averaging over 5,500 on Sunday mornings.

John is a fan of all Dallas professional sports, but puts the highest priority on loving Jesus and people authentically. He and his wife Melissa have been married for over 23 years and have four children.

William talks with John about:

  • Planting a church in a rapidly-growing community
  • Transitioning from a large church to a church plant
  • How to stay encouraged through seasons of slow growth
  • Fighting the temptation of comparison
  • Qualities of successful church planters

Quotes from John:

If it was easy, we wouldn't be fulfilled.

Work hard and pray hard.

Everybody is susceptible to the comparison game.

It's not up to us what we've been given.
