"I think using a search firm is really helpful for organizations like us. For most organizations, whether it's a church or a nonprofit, the leaders are very focused doing just that - leading the organization. It can get hard to see outside of your paradigm. A search firm can look above the work of the organization and consider more factions than a search committee or the staff may be able to look at. It brings an outside perspective that is often necessary."

Ron Edmonson

CEO, Leadership Network

Since its founding in 1984, Leadership Network has served as a premier leadership collaborative for pastors and churches. Leadership Network strives to be a think tank and training team, developing, nurturing, and sharing innovations within the church. As a result of this initiative, Leadership Network has impacted other leaders throughout ministry for three decades.

In 2017, the leaders at Leadership Network found themselves at a crossroads for an opportunity to embrace a fresh future. As they began envisioning new and innovative ways to bring together church leaders, thought leaders, and high impact content to empower the church and the disciples they served, they also looked ahead to new leadership. Hiring a new CEO was a pivotal point for the organization and finding the right person was of the utmost importance."

As with any organization, survival these days is much more complex because you're dealing with more complex issues," said Ron Edmondson, newly hired CEO of Leadership Network. "For our organization to succeed, the next 35 years things were going to have to look completely different than the last 35. We needed a new vision, new energy, and new ideas. It's a brand new day."

Because of the crucial impact of this role, Leadership Network decided to engage Vanderbloemen Search Group to help them find their next leader. The team at Vanderbloemen took the time to sit down with the staff and board at Leadership Network to truly understand what kind of leader was needed to take them to the next level. They dug deep into their DNA, their mission, their vision, and their heart behind what they do and learned not only what kind of leader they were looking for, but also what type of leader they didn't need. They knew the next person to come in and steer this organization would need to be dynamic and innovative, and capable of running a team of full-time, part-time, and contract team members living across Canada and the United States.

"Leadership Network was in such a need for re-engineering that I am not sure we would have existed in 4-5 years if the wrong candidate was hired," Ron recalls. With that heavy responsibility on their shoulders, Vanderbloemen partnered with  Leadership Network to search for the right candidate with a broad range of skills for this complex role. "I think using a search firm is really helpful for organizations like us," said Ron. "For most organizations, whether it's a church or a nonprofit, the leaders are very focused doing just that - leading the organization. It can get hard to see outside of your paradigm. A search firm can look above the work of the organization and consider more factions than a search committee or the staff may be able to look at.
