The role: The Senior Pastor is responsible to provide engaging preaching of God’s Word, teach passages of Scripture in a manner that reveals the Holy Spirit’s intention for each passage and then seek to apply it to today’s Christian life.

Preaching the Word in an engaging style that motivates people to follow and obey Christ.
Functioning as the visible leader of the church family, demonstrating a warm, genuine interest in people and developing relationships with the members of the church.
Providing visionary leadership and execution of our church’s mission and vision.
Challenging and training Staff, Elders, and ministry leaders to minister more effectively.
CBC can be characterized as a church with a rich history of preaching and teaching the Word, with long-term faithful members who volunteer and serve the church and one another, and with Elders who are actively involved in ministry and supporting the Senior Pastor and Staff. Calvary has a long history of supporting and promoting missions and supports many local and international missionaries.

About the Senior Pastor:
The Senior Pastor must have a vibrant relationship with Jesus. He models what it means to be a disciple to the congregation. His passion for discipleship and love for people enables him to equip Believers, preparing them to be leaders in the church and their families and to represent Christ in our community. The Senior Pastor is tasked with leading the congregation in fulfilling our vision of “Making Disciples Together”.
The role will:
Preaching: He needs to minister God’s Word in an engaging manner that illuminates Scripture, teaches sound doctrine, inspires and convicts listeners toward godly living, and motivates them to follow the Lord Jesus Christ through practical application.
Discipling: He needs to equip, develop, and empower Christ-followers to effectively share the gospel and make disciples who will produce more disciples.
Leadership: He should inspire and motivate Staff and volunteers to live out the mission and vision of the church, while providing spiritual leadership, coaching, and direction to ensure that ministries are effectively making disciples in our homes, the church, among our neighbors, and throughout the world.
Evaluation: In conjunction with the Governing Board, he needs to review church ministries and programs to ensure that they reflect the mission and vision of the church, and initiate changes and new or alternative programs and ministries that support the mission and vision.

Education and Experience:
The Senior Pastor should have a strong Biblical/theological background. He should possess as a minimum a bachelor’s degree with significant ministry experience (e.g. ten years). A Master of Divinity degree or a doctorate is preferable, but not a strict requirement.
The Senior Pastor’s personal and professional life must be characterized by prayer, preparation (study), and the continuing practice of hiding the Word of God in his heart. He must exhibit a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy family life as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
Preaching and worship: The Senior Pastor’s teaching style should be engaging, primarily but not exclusively expository, and culturally relevant. He should be willing to address difficult or controversial Biblical passages as well as cultural issues. He should promote and embrace a blended or balanced worship style.
Interpersonal relations: The Senior Pastor should enjoy reaching out to and connecting with congregants on a personal level.
Leadership: He should be a servant-leader who leads by example, works effectively with others, and possesses a passion for mentoring Staff and building up lay leaders. In conjunction with the Elders, he must be capable of creating, communicating, and executing a long term vision for the church’s ministry. He should be skilled at building consensus and forming teams to do ministry. He is able to identify trouble spots and breakdown silos within the organization to increase ministry effectiveness.
