Meet Central Baptist Waycross

In the early 1900s, when Waycross was rapidly transformed from a quiet community to a bustling town by the influx of newcomers brought to the area by the newly constructed shops of the Atlantic Coast Railroad, many locals recognized a need to minister to the newcomers. There was no place sufficiently sized to meet the requirements, so a large tent was purchased and used as the first meeting house for Central Baptist. Over the last 110 years, much has changed about Waycross and Central Baptist, but what remains is an unwavering passion to preach the gospel faithfully.

The church has enjoyed a long history of faithful pastors who did not waver in their commitment to preach the word. Central has also enjoyed long and fruitful tenures of her associate pastors. Today, Pastor Ben Smith is the most recent addition to the pastoral staff, having served Central for nearly eight years.

As the culture and community of Waycross changes, Central is committed to doing whatever is required to take the gospel to our neighbors and the world.  In our community, the church has been very active in benevolence and efforts to meet physical needs so that we might have the opportunity to share the gospel. Recognizing that the neighborhood surrounding the church campus is changing, the church has been systematically working to meet every neighbor within a one-mile radius of the church to introduce them to the church and pray for their needs.
