Meet Christ Church:
Christ Church began as a church plant of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago. Matt and his wife Miranda moved to Chicago in 2010 to join the training center for four months of intensive training in church planting. During that time, God made it clear He was calling the Townsends to plant a church in the Northeast, a place known for having hard soil for new churches and especially for the gospel. They went with a simple mission, to make the life-changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ known and advance the great commission in the hearts and lives of others.
Matt and Miranda moved to the King of Prussia area to begin the work of building a launch team in early 2011. Christ Church, formerly known as Harvest Bible Chapel launched in September of that year in the Middle School of Upper Merion. The first few years were dedicated to establishing key ministries, hiring key ministry leaders, establishing offices, assisting other church plants, and overcoming common early church-planting hurdles. During this time, Christ Church invested heavily in its worship ministry and saw great fruit from its efforts. Engaging, vibrant, life-giving, Christ-exalting worship became a key marker in our identity as a church very early on.
In 2016, God opened a door to plant its first international church and assist in relaunching a church in North Jersey. In partnership with Vertical Church Columbus and Derek Ward of Barbados, Harvest Bible Chapel Barbados was planted in 2017. Both Vertical Church and Christ Church have sent mission teams down multiple times to share in the work of establishing a healthy, vibrant, life-giving church on the island.
In 2018, God opened a door to help launch a church in the inner city of Philadelphia, a Christ-Centered Church, in partnership with the Great Commission Collective. The church struggled to gain footing for two years and closed when the pandemic hit in 2020.
In March 2020, the pandemic hit, and all groups that met at the Middle School in Upper Merion (King of Prussia) were kicked out due to virus concerns. During the summer of 2020, Swedesford Road Church (SRC) kindly opened its doors and allowed Christ Church to meet on Saturday nights for worship. It was a challenging season requiring extended endurance as the ground beneath the church moved quickly. Yet, in the midst of incredible change and adversity, God was faithful.
During that time, God stirred in the hearts of the leaders at SRC and Christ Church to consider joining forces for the sake of the mission. Through much prayer, discussions, and the counsel of others, the leaders of SRC and Christ Church agreed to join forces and become one church. The staff, leaders, elders, deacons, and DNA of Christ Church have taken the lead in the merger of these two churches
As we consider the future of our ministry and the mission of reaching our community and making disciples, we recognize that a solid youth ministry is key to accomplishing our goals. We pray God brings us the right person to help us reach our community and disciple our people.
