Community Covenant 1

Meet Community Covenant Church:

We exist to see people and places changed by Christ.

Community Covenant Church (CCC) is an independent, non-denominational church founded fifty years ago as a Charismatic renewal congregation. In 2000 we shifted to the Purpose Driven Model and in 2002 became one of the early hosting sites for the Global Leadership Summit, which continues to the present. We have grown into a gospel-centered, Spirit-led, Egalitarian (except for the Lead Pastor role) church that believes in the tenants and practices of orthodox Christianity. (For a concise history click here.) A hallmark of this church is its generous, creative and deeply entrepreneurial spirit when it comes to identifying needs and developing creative ways to meet them.

As a church, we have been consistently known for our excellent children’s and students’ ministries; we believe the best spiritual growth happens in Community Groups; and we are called to be a regional church because of the distance people are willing to drive to attend. The primary demographic we attract and serve is nesting stage families. We have smaller numbers of post high-school and twenty-somethings, as well as “pioneers” who have been part of the church from its earliest days. We have a balanced socio-economic spectrum and have consistently attracted people from a wide range of Christian faith backgrounds. Currently, approximately 50% come from an Evangelical background, 25% have a Catholic background, approximately 15% from “Other Protestant,” and 10% from a Charismatic background.

In the last five years, we have experienced the retirement of a long-term Lead Pastor after 20+ years of service, followed by a much younger Lead Pastor who led a four-year rebranding and revitalization effort. In September 2019 Gregg Caruso, a Managing Partner with VitalChurch Ministry, became the Intentional Interim Pastor to further prepare CCC to refocus on our unique identity, and re-envision our future. All of this was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the idea that every church is now in a new start-up mode, we have shifted from Facebook Live to an online campus. Currently, we hold a socially distant 9 am service that is broadcast live and repeated at 11 am. Our Community Groups remain strong—and because of zoom, some of our Community Groups achieved 100% attendance for the first time! Zoom will continue to be a blessing during the winter months when less people are willing to venture out.

We are seeking a Lead Pastor who can build on the firm foundation we have laid as a gospel-centered, community-minded church who is educated, has a proven track record of personal and professional accountability, who is able to relate to and reach millennials (and younger), is capable of preaching to our unique assemblage of bible-believing backgrounds, has experience in a larger church—leading a staff of 10 (or more), is an proven equipper and team builder, is committed to life-long learning and emotional health, is skilled at speaking the truth in love, and has strong giftings in both leadership and teaching. Familiarity with Policy Governance and having a graduate degree from an accredited seminary would be pluses.

About the Lead Pastor:

The Lead Pastor of Community Covenant Church is truly called to lead and has extensive experience in a similar role, preferably in a larger church. He believes and agrees with the gospel-centered view of Scripture where Jesus is our greatest hope and boast, our deepest longing and delight, and our most passionate song and message. It means that the gospel is what defines us as Christians, unites us as brothers and sisters, changes us as both sinners and saints and sends us as God’s people on mission.

What it's Like to Live in Rehoboth, Massachusetts:

Rehoboth is one of the oldest towns in the U.S., established in 1643 and named for the Hebrew word for "enlargement," (see Gen 26:22b; 1 Chron 1:48) signifying the space settlers enjoyed (God has given us room). Rehoboth is a quiet and family-friendly town and is a combination of bedroom communities for both Boston and Providence, as well as quaintly rural with many family farms, equestrian centers, as well as historic sites. Rehoboth is the birthplace of public education in North America and adjacent to Pawtucket R.I., the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.

The area offers plenty of opportunities to explore nature, the seashore, and nearby islands. As an ideally located border region, it is close to the crossroads of numerous highways leading south to New York City or north to the rest of New England. People in this area take advantage easily of the exceptional arts, restaurants, music venues, theatre, historical attractions, and renown academic and medical resources in both Providence R.I. and Boston Massachusetts.
