Cornerstone Church

Connections Pastor

Prescott, Arizona

Weekly Attendance: 575 - 600

Denomination: Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA)

Location: Prescott, AZ

About the Organization:

Cornerstone Church was started in 1989 as First Evangelical Free Church at Prescott. Started
by a small group of people that wanted a different church in Prescott, the early years weren’t
easy. By the mid-2000s, the church dwindled to about 50 people. After considering the potential
of closing their doors, Cornerstone made the decision to give it one more shot, calling a young
and inexperienced pastor named John Dickerson.

Over the next 3 years, the church exploded, growing from 60 to 500 regular attenders. In 2012,
they outgrew the Rosser property for their Sunday services. Through some divine connections,
they started meeting on Sundays at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center and became a
mobile church on the weekends. The Rosser property became the Rosser campus where
Cornerstone Ministries continued to function throughout the week.

Currently, Cornerstone is running about 600 people on Sundays and has over 40% of their adult
attenders involved in community groups and serving within the church. In the last two years, the
church has broken records for holiday attendance on Christmas and Easter. With several
months to go in 2018, the church has already exceeded their number of baptisms from 2017.
Lead Pastor Scott Savage joined the team in July 2016. He resonated with the church’s simple
approach to ministry and introduced the language of a Map, not a Menu, in terms of the
approach to programs. He also gave language to the church’s desire to be known as a church
that is For Prescott and For the World. This fall, Cornerstone will embark on it’s first
#ForPrescott Week, including community service projects with local partners.

Cornerstone focuses on four key habits, which it encourages all participants to engage. Gather
in worship, Connect in a group, Serve where you’re gifted, and Engage your circle. The Big 4 is
the focus of ministry programming and marks the simple focus of church leadership.
The church’s desire to bring cohesion and depth to their Community Group Ministry, Connection
Volunteer Teams, and First Impressions Experience has led to the creation of the Connection
and Groups Pastor role.
