Cross Church

Worship Pastor

Cumming, Georgia

Denomination: Non-Denominational

Weekly Attendance: 750

Location: Cumming, Georgia

The Role: The Worship Pastor will steward the worship ministry well by leading the church efficiently and taking worship to the next level.

Meet Cross Church:

After personally sharing a message entitled “Timeline,” God awoke Josh and Monica to their own place in His story. Josh’s late grandparents James and Madge Mayo helped to start nearly 30 churches in the Atlanta region. His parents Sam and Jeanne Mayo, who began their ministry in Georgia, also returned to Atlanta to pastor after leading significant churches in other states. With eyes of faith, Josh and Monica believe that his grandparents “planted seeds,” his parents “watered those seeds” and the Lord will help them to reap His harvest through Cross Church.  In Josh’s timeline message, he felt impressed that God was doing something generational. Our lives become significant when we attach them to God’s timeline.

We believe that Cross Church is a generational work. Cross Church is built on the prayers, faith, and a spiritual timeline that goes far beyond the here and now. Leaving 12 years of successful ministry in Arkansas and California, the Mayo’s returned to their family roots in Atlanta. They desired to obey the Lord by beginning Cross Church.

On January 26, 2014, we held our very first Sunday morning service. With a launch group of approximately 50 people, Cross Church has grown to three services and numerous ministries and ministry expressions on a weekly basis.

About the Worship Pastor:

The Worship Pastor will lead us toward our goal of simply taking our worship culture to the next level. He/She will steward the worship ministry well by leading our 750 person church efficiently. The heart of the “house" and the staff is exceptional and very healthy, so the Worship Pastor will develop and cultivate our ministry in such a way that pushes us beyond where we’ve been so far.

The Worship Pastor Will:

  • Approaches ministry with a servant mentality

  • Has an innate platform presence

  • Effective leader with clear leadership goals

  • Ability to lead worship and speak

  • Fosters relationships with the church community and is highly relational

  • Ability to Pastor people outside of a Sunday worship experience and not just lead songs

  • Brings a balance of hard work, motivation, drive, and fun

Musical Experience:

  • Proficient in Sight Reading and Music Theory

  • Full Understanding of the Nashville Number System

  • Capable of leading a full band with trained musicians

  • Able to communicate and execute vocal harmonies

  • Comfortable leading with or without an instrument - guitar is preferred

What you Bring:

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in ministry

  • Experience in developing worship teams

  • Experience in multi-site campuses is a plus

Personal Characteristics

  • Loves Jesus and allows that love and character to shine through their life.

  • A Pastor and servant leader, not just a talented performer.

  • One who cares deeply about being a part of and building a spiritual family. We lead relationally, not by title or position. Top-down – authority driven leadership will struggle leading effectively in our spiritual family. It’s just not our spiritual DNA.  Having a heart for the house means to love the church family and relationally and sacrificially care for them on a regular basis.

  • Vocally gifted worship leader who is Spirit-led.  Naturally knows how to “flow” between songs and build momentum during the worship set without creating distractions or momentum “interruptions.”

  • Gifted at developing and multiplying strong worship teams (band/vocals) for future campuses.

  • Strong leadership abilities and is relatable so others can connect with them.

  • A creative visionary leader who brings fresh ideas to the table and enjoys working with a team.

  • A healthy family that is ministry motivated. Although the applicant’s spouse does not need to have an employed ministry role, we would want them to have a ministry heart and an active passion for ministry service.

What it’s like to live in Cumming/John’s Creek/Alpharetta, Georgia:

Cumming, Georgia – One of the best places to live in Georgia, according to a 2019 list released by the Chamber of Commerce. “Small Town Heart, Big City Spirit” is the way the city describes the region. As a diverse, fast-growing suburb of Atlanta, the City of Cumming has a city-center population of 6,000+ while the community at large boasts of 225,000 residents. It is a community bustling with vibrant life, yet still remains rich in history and tradition. While Cross Church is geographically located on the border of Cumming, we have a great reach into John’s Creek, Suwanee and Alpharetta, Georgia. To think of our community as a single city doesn’t accurately describe our community. We are several cities and suburbs that blend well, offering a wonderful lifestyle. People often work in one, eat lunch in the next and go home in another. This means there is no shortage of fun, family-friendly activities to explore in the community.

The community offers an array of city-life and natural adventures for the entire family.  In addition to all the other standard box retail stores, the greater Cumming/Johns Creek/Alpharetta area offers  The Halcyon, The Avalon, and  The Collection at Forsyth. These are all popular gathering areas that offer a full array of shopping, restaurants, and movie theaters. John’s Creek also offers the best of both nature and city life - so you could spend a day fishing or picnicking on the Chattahoochee or Autrey Mill Preserve, or dine at some of it’s finest restaurants. There's also the opportunity to visit the Aquatic Center and Water Park that’s equipped with an outdoor water park, featuring a water slide, lazy river, and splash play area. Enjoy the day boating on Lake Lanier, located just 15 minutes from downtown Cumming or exploring Sawnee Mountain Preserve. This community is full of opportunities to explore both nature and a thriving social life with activities for all, it also boasts some of the best public school districts in GA.

In addition to our community, we are conveniently located 45 minutes away from downtown Atlanta which we believe provides some of the best entertainment, family and sport opportunities around. From yearly events like Cirque du Soleil to countless shows at the famous Fox Theatre there is so much available. Enjoy a game with the family to cheer on the Atlanta Falcons, Braves or Hawks or enjoy the world's largest aquarium - The Georgia Aquarium. Doing life in our community provides the attraction of a smaller community, with the convenience and options of the big city. Not to mention direct flights to almost anywhere through the world's busiest airport -  Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
