The role: The Communications Director will proactively communicate, support and fulfill the vision, values, purpose, and goals of Crossroads Church by leading all components of communications and marketing.

About the Communications Director: 

The Communications Director will proactively communicate, support and fulfill the vision, values, purpose, and goals of Crossroads Church by leading all components of communications and marketing.

The role will: 

  • Mission Critical Responsibilities:

      • Produce excellent and consistent experiences in Crossroads print and media touch points.

      • Maintain open and frequent communication with Senior staff, Associate staff, Support staff, Volunteer team leaders and members.

  • Role Specific Responsibilities for the Communications Director:
      • Communications is responsible for and focused on leadership and team development, oversight and execution of all aspects of Communications and Marketing outlined below:

  • Project Management
      • Gather, assess, delegate and track all incoming project requests, such as Communication

      • Requests, Creative Requests, Special Events and Video Projects

      • Develop and maintain the project management system used to track projects and delegate tasks

      • Serve as a liaison between all ministries to gather project details and relay relevant information for each task within a project.

      • Communicate with staff to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Websites
      • Manage all aspects of Crossroads Church website(s)

      • Content Management – timely, current, and appropriate to Crossroads Church

      • Manage the uploading of weekly content

      • Lead all efforts related to the creation and development of all websites

      • May work with web development companies

      • May create and develop sites internally

  • Communications 
      • Manage system that organizes, prioritizes, schedules and communicates promotional items related to Crossroads Church.

      • Create communication strategies to market, inform, and promote teaching series, big events, and other campaigns.

      • Oversee all written materials related to promotions

      • May require writing or securing writers

      • Editing and proof-reading for accuracy and appropriateness

      • Maintain a global communications calendar.

      • Maintain the Communications budget and a cost-effective approach for Communications.

  • Social Media
      • Manage social media presence for Crossroads Church including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, and Flickr and Instagram.

      • Manage on going social media messaging and communication strategies.

      • Creatively build followings on various social media outlets

  • Design
      • Network and manage all paid and volunteer artists to develop graphic designs.

      • Manage the Creation and maintenance of all internal and external signage.

      • Develop ministry partnerships with outside vendors that share Crossroads commitment to excellence.

  • Creative Collaboration
      • Participate in creative meetings to contribute ideas, feedback and keep projects documented.

      • Track all current projects in creative meetings to ensure projects are delegated, completed on time and within budget.

      • Work closely with the Creative team to get projects from idea to execution, fill in the gaps, and setup team for success.

      • Assist with scheduling, calendar requests, accounting, paperwork and projects as needed.

      • Work closely with Crossroads Church video team to produce creative and effective promotional videos: concept, scripting, video shoots, editing and post-production.

      • Strategize creative tactics to use video to promote and send the message of Crossroads Church wants to communicate to the church and to the world.

  • Brand Management
      • Monitor the look, vibe, feel of all promotional materials representing Crossroads Church.

      • Police the use of logos and images that represent Crossroads Church.

      • Create policies and procedures (style guide) related to the branding of Crossroads Church and related entities.

  • Media Relations
      • Create positive relationships with local media.

      • Oversee efforts related to securing or responding to media attention.

      • Develop policy and procedures related to media relations.

  • Stories/ Celebrations/ Vision/ Giving
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive plan to communicate ministry wins

    • Acquire and communicate stories of life change to cast vision – in conjunction with the ProgrammingVolunteer Teams

    • Develop volunteer teams as deemed necessary to accomplish goals for our Communications

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will likely have a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, though not required. They will have a commitment to excellence, especially in grammar and presentation, and experience and ability to do their job well. 

The ideal candidate will have three to four years of ministry experience working in a church of a similar size and culture to Crossroads Church. 

Personal Characteristics

  • Strong leadership abilities to include coaching, direction, career development, influence and strategic development. Someone who is well rounded skills-wise and can speak into each role on the team would be a great fit. 

  • This person should have a strong commitment to personal time with God every day, and be committed to ongoing spiritual, personal, and professional growth.

  • Strategic perspective on the use of technology to expand the Kingdom.

  • Strong understanding of information technology.

  • Interpersonal skills that enables effective collaboration with other ministry leaders and staff.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • A primary bend towards people, and a secondary bend towards systems will work great in this role. 

  • A good sense of humor and someone who is able to laugh at themselves is a must. 

  • Someone who can navigate conflict well but doesn’t seek it out is an ideal personality for this role. 

  • Someone who is an innovator/dreamer.

  • Emotional intelligence and humility are essential. 

  • Someone with experience leading a team and who operates with a collaborative leadership style. The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable saying no, but will still be approachable and easy to talk to. With this, they might also love coffee and collaborating and meeting over a cup of coffee! 

  • A graphics background and creative team leadership experience and skills is a plus. Someone who is a learner would be ideal in this role.  

  • Someone who maximizes the potential of those around them and inspires others. The Communications Director will actively seek to develop people.

  • High capacity worker who empowers their team, not controls or micromanages. 

  • Someone who is fun and likes to have fun with the team. An extroverted personality will work great in this work environment.
