Eastern Hills Community Church (EHCC) began in the early 1980s with a group of people who had vision to create a ministry in the southeast Aurora area. After worshiping in a variety of temporary settings, the church moved into their own building in 1989, and ten years later, opened an addition to that facility. In July of 2008, they moved into their present building, a facility consisting of 70,000 square feet.

Phil Eubank, the current Lead Pastor, came to EHCC in March 2016.  Since that time the church has gone through changes of vision and mission and has had a new awakening of their outward focus on their community.  The call to care about people who are close to you and far from God has saturated the church’s culture. The church’s values of reaching out, growing deep, and partnering with families are found throughout the various ministries of the church.  

Eastern Hills is part of the Christian Reformed Church of North America, but in many ways is “out of the box” from the standard CRC church. Although reformed in theology, the church is very innovative in methodology and driven by missions. Eastern Hills is also a North Point Strategic Partner. The music is modern, the teaching is topical and relevant, and the weekend services are outward focused—with an intentional desire to reach the 92% unchurched population surrounding the church.

The Executive Pastor of Ministries will provide leadership and direction to the ministry teams of Eastern Hills (including Family Ministries, Adult Discipleship, Creative Arts, Weekday Preschool and Reach Out). The Executive Pastor of Ministries is one of the key leaders of the church, especially the paid staff, and should lead and manage toward the mission and vision established by the Lead Pastor in conjunction with the Elders.

The Executive Pastor of Ministries will: 

  • Ensure each ministry has a winnable strategy and clear goals. In addition, ensure each ministry is identifying and solving problems, and achieving its purpose.   

  • Responsible for ensuring each ministry is appropriately staffed with fantastic people who are great fits, aligned to their personal gifting and the organizational vision of Eastern Hills. The position is also responsible for ensuring each ministry is appropriately resourced.

  • Oversee paid staff evaluation processes. Ensure healthy accountability and development systems are in place across the organization (annual goals, 6x6s, etc.).

  • Ensure staff teams are creating leadership pathways across Point Crew (volunteers) and staff teams.

  • Provide leadership to ad hoc staff and leadership teams during seasonal vacancies or temporary initiatives.  

  • Provide oversight to the weekly Preschool, ensuring a program that is safe and effective.

  • Establish and maintain a ministry dashboard that tracks key metrics, which is used to inform strategic and tactical decision-making.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to make sure there is effective communication between Ministries and Ops teams.  

  • Be a voice in the creation, execution, and future oversight of multi-site strategy.  

  • Drive implementation of vision across staff teams and ministry areas.  

  • May serve as a member of the Teaching Team, preaching in the weekend services on a regular rotation.  

What you bring: 

Education   

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree. A seminary degree is not required but is a great bonus.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in a strategic or management role. The ideal candidate does not have to have previous Executive Pastor experience, although that is a plus.  An additional plus would be experience in a multisite church or church plant setting.

  • Sets a tone of leadership in areas of responsibility that is collaborative in nature, has a focus on analytical decision making, and emphasizes individual and collective accountability for the integrity and strength of Eastern Hills.

  • Those who serve God in the pastoral staff at Eastern Hills are expected to embrace a high biblical standard of personal conduct and lifestyle, both public and personal.

  • Has an intimate and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as evidenced by daily habits of spending time with Him and His Word, active involvement in the leadership of the church, and a commitment to maintaining healthy accountability relationships with a small number of mature Christians.

  • Fosters a “can do” attitude that combines initiative, a sense of urgency, and a commitment to results.

Based on data gathered over 7 years, the highest average temperature in southeast Aurora is found to be in July, at 85-degrees, with the perfect combination of sun and breeze. Lovers of winter weather will find its 28-degree Christmas season to be highly appealing, with crystal white snowfalls of 52-inches each year.

The city of Aurora ranks in the Top 10 cities for healthcare, anchored by the award-winning Anschutz Medical Campus with its own children’s hospital. It is home to Buckley Air Force base and all five branches of the military that have been responsible for over 40,000 military ops to date. The 400 types of ethnic food offerings and eclectic blend of flavors speak to Aurora’s cultural diversity, which consists of 45% Caucasian, 29% Hispanic, 15% African American, and 5% Asian populations living within the city limits.

One of Colorado’s best school districts, Cherry Creek, is located in southeast Aurora, and the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, and the Air Force Academy (USAFA) lead the higher education system of the state. Forbes ‘Best States for Business’ ranks Colorado at #5, and lists it as the only state that is not a right-to-work state, as well as having the expectation to be the 6th fastest job growth state over the next 5 years.
