Meet First Baptist Church Broken Arrow:

Established in 1904, First Baptist Church is a multigenerational congregation, serving the Christian community in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. For almost a century, FBC was located in a downtown location. In 2020, Dr. Matt Brooks became the new senior pastor, following the 33-year tenure of Pastor Nick Garland. By all accounts, the intentional transition was an exceptionally healthy one. 

As the church grew, we experienced several building programs and built new facilities. In 1990, FBC became debt free and purchased a 142-acre site just off the Broken Arrow Expressway. The leadership and congregation chose to buy the land and build their facilities debt free. As a result, money has been used for ministries and missions rather than debt service.  

Through the years, FBCBA has established other churches and assisted struggling local churches to help them re-establish a strong foundation. In 2001, FBCBA built on an already strong missions foundation and became a Global Focus church, literally following Acts 1:8 as our mission strategy. In 2011, FBCBA merged with a congregation in Coweta, OK to form a satellite campus. In August of 2020, that campus was released to become its own independent church. 

FBCBA is biblically conservative and deeply rooted in the Word of God, expositional teaching, and life application. Worship is vibrant, and there are two worship expressions: blended and modern. We also emphasize evangelism, missions, and discipleship. FBCBA is purposefully a multi-generational church and seeks to provide ministry and worship opportunities to both traditional and non-traditional church attenders of all ages and backgrounds.

The future is remarkably bright because the community is growing; we have a very talented and dedicated staff, a great location with modern facilities, and no debt. FBCBA is excited and filled with anticipation as we look forward to our future with a new Senior Pastor, Executive Pastor, and a growing staff.

 

About the Student/Next Generation Pastor:

First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow (FBCBA) is seeking a Student/Next Generation Pastor who is a spiritually mature leader and has a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. He will be responsible to the church, under the direction of the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor, for overseeing all ministries from birth through high school. The dual role of Student/Next Generation Pastor carries a primary identity as the Student Pastor; as such, most of the time commitment and focus (roughly 80/20) is with students in grades 6-12.

The Student/Next Generation Pastor Will: 

  • Give direction to Next Generation ministry leadership in the areas of enlistment, training, mobilization, and encouragement, having as the goal to place each leader in their area of giftedness. 

  • Create and implement a strategic plan for the spiritual formation of all ages in the Next Generation ministry that is aligned with the mission, pathway, and objectives of FBCBA.

  • Supervise the Next Generation Ministry staff, including the development of annual objectives and professional development plans for each team member.

What You Bring: 

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in leading a student and/or next generation ministry in a medium to large church setting.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Seminary training/degree preferred.

Qualifications/Skills

  • A personal sense of calling from God to vocational Christian ministry in general and to next generation ministry specifically.

  • A mature Christian who demonstrates the Fruits of the Spirit, is growing in their faith, and is committed to spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading and prayer.

  • An understanding of student, kids, preschool, and family ministry as a foundational ministry of the church.

  • Can identify closely with the mission, values, vision, theology, and philosophy of First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.

  • The proven ability to communicate and teach God’s word effectively to students from 6th to 12th grade.

  • A willingness to be a “team player” both within the staff, church, and community for Kingdom purposes.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Grow spiritually and model to the student ministry staff, students, leaders, and parents a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

  • Serve as the primary teacher/communicator for Student Ministry gathering on Sundays, Wednesdays, and special occasions.

  • Develop a healthy team culture by fostering strong relationships and open dialogue. Conduct team meetings on a regular cycle.

  • Prioritize leadership development of kids and students by providing ways for them to lead in ministry experience. 

  • Develop an annual budget for the Student Ministry and oversee the budget development of Kids and Preschool Ministry. 

  • Advance the strategic small group ministry and disciple-making groups for students and kids. 

  • Plan, execute, and give direction to catalyst events (camps, retreats, etc...) throughout the year that will create opportunities of powerful worship, discipleship, and evangelism.

  • Be available for counseling and support of students, kids, and their families as the need arises.

  • Serve as a contributing member of the Lead Team, influencing the overall strategies, tactics, and direction of the church’s mission, pathway, and objectives.

  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with area schools and administrations.

  • Must have flexibility to accept and execute other duties as assigned.

  • Must maintain appropriate judgment and confidentiality.
