Meet First Baptist Church:

First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls was founded in 1883 when Rev. H. M. Burroughs moved from Henrietta and together, with eight dedicated men and women, started what is known today as our First Baptist Church Downtown Campus.

Under the current leadership of Pastor, Dr. Bob McCartney, First Baptist Church is now “one church in three locations”:  FBCWF Downtown, Church at Sheppard, and FBCWF West Campus.

  • Church at Sheppard was launched in 2010 with the aim of reaching and ministering to people “in & around” Sheppard Air Force Base.

  • FBCWF West Campus was launched in 2014 with the aim of reaching the growing population of young families moving west of the city towards Holliday.

FBCWF Downtown began offering a contemporary style worship service in August 2005. Today, First Baptist includes six (6) Sunday morning worship services across three campuses… five (5) being contemporary and one (1) being blended with a full choir and orchestra. Currently, 75% of attendance now comes from contemporary worship attenders.  Plus, 85% of those attending worship, also regularly attend a Life Group. In the past ten years, the church has averaged 150 baptisms per year (not including 2020 due to Covid).

Through the years, other programs such as Upward Sports, Awana, Re-Engage, The Bridge (a revitalized College Ministry), and Family Night (a full Wednesday night program that averages 1500 in attendance) have been added to further reach the community.

Pastor Bob has not only expanded the “campus reach” of First Baptist Church, Wichita Falls but has also led the church to increase outreach to Midwestern State University, Missions (St. Kitts & Romania partnerships), and Church Plants (Utah & Oklahoma). First Baptist Church has been blessed by God for over 100+ years and continually remains fruitful through the many gifts and talents of dedicated pastors, staff, and members.
