Denomination: Southern Baptist Convention
Weekly Attendance: 2,100
Location: Windermere, Florida
The role: FBC Windermere is seeking a Teaching Pastor who will be a part of a teaching team to preach at both the downtown Windermere and Lakeside Campuses.
Meet First Baptist Church Windermere
The vision for FBC Windermere began in 1959, when a dedicated group of pastors and laity formed a mission team that led FBC Winter Garden to purchase two and a half lots on Main Street in Windermere. In March 1961, Windermere Baptist Chapel was started by FBC Winter Garden in what is today the Dixie Cream Café.
From the start, FBC Windermere has had a vision to reach this area with the good news of Jesus Christ. Over the next 13 years, new property was acquired, and more buildings were added. Today, the church has five and a half acres in downtown Windermere and is built out and running at capacity, with four weekend services.
During the 90s, the church realized that growth at this location would always be limited and the decision was made to purchase land a few miles away and become a multi-site church. They were able to purchase a 50 acre orange grove that was no longer in use. Once again, the vision to reach people was affirmed in the DNA of this church.
In 2004, FBC Windermere opened what today is their Lakeside Campus on Highway 535. At that time, the area was just starting to develop. Today, the area around the Lakeside Campus is exploding with growth. God has placed them in a very strategic place with the property and facilities to reach many people. Today, Upwards sports programs fill the seven acre field with soccer, flag football, and sports camps year-round. Preschool and after care programs are at capacity and worship experiences and ministries are growing, all because of the vision to connect people with Jesus.
In 2015, FBC Windermere welcomed a Brazilian congregation and began services that quickly outgrew the space, so they moved to the Downtown Worship Center on Sunday nights where they continued to grow. During this process God was moving in the hearts of the Brazilian Congregation and the FBC Windermere to merge and become one church reaching this area for Christ.
That move led to a clear vision to reach a mission field where 80% of the members live, by having a multi-campus, multi-ethnic church. Today, there are 11 services on four campuses with a vision to have a campus within a 15 minute drive of everyone in their mission field. The intent is to provide a service for different languages as God provides. Today, a thriving Spanish ministry has begun, as well as a Dream Center that serves an under resourced community.
Although FBC Windermere is now 52 years old, they believe that, with God’s blessing, the greatest days are yet to come. With the addition of the Four Corners Campus in October, FBC Windermere now has three language communities at four campuses, committed to doing what it takes to reach their mission field and to see individuals, families, and communities transformed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
