Presentation #1

Meet First Baptist Church Windermere

The vision for FBC Windermere began in 1959, when a dedicated group of pastors and laity formed a mission team that led FBC Winter Garden to purchase two and a half lots on Main Street in Windermere. In March 1961, Windermere Baptist Chapel was started by FBC Winter Garden in what is today the Dixie Cream Café.

From the start, FBC Windermere has had a vision to reach this area with the good news of Jesus Christ. Over the next 13 years, new property was acquired, and more buildings were added. Today, the church has five and a half acres in downtown Windermere and is built out and running at capacity, with four weekend services.

During the 90s, the church realized that growth at this location would always be limited and the decision was made to purchase land a few miles away and become a multi-site church. They were able to purchase a 50 acre orange grove that was no longer in use. Once again, the vision to reach people was affirmed in the DNA of this church.

In 2004, FBC Windermere opened what today is their Lakeside Campus on Highway 535. At that time, the area was just starting to develop. Today, the area around the Lakeside Campus is exploding with growth. God has placed them in a very strategic place with the property and facilities to reach many people. Today, Upwards sports programs fill the seven acre field with soccer, flag football, and sports camps year-round. Preschool and after care programs are at capacity and worship experiences and ministries are growing, all because of the vision to connect people with Jesus.

In 2015, FBC Windermere welcomed a Brazilian congregation and began services that quickly outgrew the space, so they moved to the Downtown Worship Center on Sunday nights where they continued to grow.  During this process God was moving in the hearts of the Brazilian Congregation and the FBC Windermere to merge and become one church reaching this area for Christ.

That move led to a clear vision to reach a mission field where 80% of the members live, by having a multi-campus, multi-ethnic church. Today, there are 11 services on four campuses with a vision to have a campus within a 15 minute drive of everyone in their mission field. The intent is to provide a service for different languages as God provides.  Today, a thriving Spanish ministry has begun, as well as a Dream Center that serves an under resourced community.

Although FBC Windermere is now 52 years old, they believe that, with God’s blessing, the greatest days are yet to come. With the addition of the Four Corners Campus in October, FBC Windermere now has three language communities at four campuses, committed to doing what it takes to reach their mission field and to see individuals, families, and communities transformed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Central Florida is a great place to live and raise a family. The Greater Orlando Area has consistently been in the top 25 fastest growing cities in America and was 14th on the most recent list.

One of the FBC Windermere campuses is located right next to Walt Disney World and there is an abundance of entertainment for the family. Disney truly is a magical place for families of all ages. Everyone can find something to enjoy in the nostalgic entertainment and memories of Disney World, and the thrills of some of the most creative and fast roller coasters in the United States, with delicious cultural food and flavors to enjoy after from Epcot’s World Showcase. Not only that, but the area where Windermere is located is surrounded by lakes that make is a great place for people who enjoy the outdoors - a nod to its history as well, as it’s rumored that Windermere was named for England’s picturesque Lake Windermere, and it truly lives up to its name.

Pristine sand bottom lakes surround this small West Orange community. The boating enthusiast will revel in the system of canals that connects eight lakes known as the Butler Chain of Lakes.

Today, more than 2,300 people inhabit the Town of Windermere, but the town’s focus is on preserving its natural history and strong community atmosphere. In fact, many of the town streets remain unpaved to continue their commitment to retain the pristine nature of the Chain of Lakes. Windermere has been named “Tree City USA” for its commitment to a natural environment for ten consecutive years.

The area is a blend of older residences and young families and a diverse culture with a large Brazilian population.

It is just a 45 minute to an hour drive to both coasts (Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico), so it is perfect for those who like the beach. All in all, Windermere is a great place to call home.
