The Role: The Executive Pastor will lead the implementation of the vision and mission of Grace Community Church under the direction of the Lead Pastor and will equip and lead staff members into greater effectiveness in their areas of oversight.


Meet Grace Community Church:

Founded in 1967, Grace Community Church has been a pillar in the Tempe community for over 53 years. We exist to fulfill and serve the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. Those two statements that Jesus made are what we base everything on. We do that simply by using that word grace.

We exist to grow in our discipleship, to grow richly. We exist to reach intentionally. We exist to adore God passionately in worship. We exist to connect authentically with others in genuine relationships. And finally, we exist to serve by engaging the community wholeheartedly.

About the Executive Pastor:

The Executive Pastor’s role is to lead the implementation of the vision and mission of  Grace Community Church under the direction of the Lead Pastor. The Executive Pastor will equip and lead staff members into greater effectiveness in their areas of oversight and in advancing the mission and vision of the church in general. They will oversee special projects and the implementation of new programs, policies. and initiatives.

The Executive Pastor will: 

Staff Leadership

  • Be a servant leader who equips and encourages each direct report.

  • Be able to operate both at a conceptual level and pay attention to detail.

  • Be a competent multitasker, capable of managing multiple people, projects, and priorities.

Management/Ministry Oversight

  • Oversee the ministries of the church to ensure they are moving in the direction of the vision of the church, are fulfilling the stated mission of the church, and are coordinated in their efforts.

  • Lead, manage, and supervise the ministry staff.

  • Provide oversight of ministry organization, long-range and/or strategic plans, priorities, goals, and budgets.

Integration and Collaboration

  • Be action and results-oriented, getting things done through actively managing the efforts of the staff and ministry leads.

  • Influence by motivating, encouraging, and developing team members.

  • Demonstrate servant leadership and a collaborative style.

  • Fosters mutual respect and build a complementary team where each strength is maximized and each weakness is minimized.

  • Fosters a spirit of openness, participation, cooperation, communication, and unity among the various leadership units of the church organization.

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will have five or more years of experience and an undergraduate degree in a related field. Experience as an executive pastor or in a role similar is important for this role.

  • Knows how to manage a budget.

  • Can oversee facility maintenance and renovation projects on the campus.

  • Are team-oriented and a people person.

  • A leader of leaders.

  • Gifted in conflict resolution. 

  • Confident in his calling as an Executive Pastor.

  • Gifted in HR, processes, staffing, and other business administrative areas.

  • Exhibits spiritual maturity through the love of people, service to others, an active prayer life, and a strong knowledge of the Bible.

  • Shows daily dedication to increasing knowledge of Jesus Christ and deepening spiritual walk, as evidenced by continuous study and active learning.

  • Shows evidence of experience, skills, and giftedness, which can provide the basis for successfully achieving the purpose of the position.
