2017 09 24 Sunday Morning-4What it's like to live in Bentonville, Arkansas:

Established in 1836 as the first county in the state of Arkansas, Benton County and Bentonville have maintained their historic charm while transitioning into a progressive and growing community, consistently ranked as one of the best in the US in which to live. From the vibrant downtown square, historical areas, and world-class museums to soft and hard cycling trails that connect across Northwest Arkansas, Bentonville is a hub of diverse options and initiatives that are paving paths to making Bentonville a top regional destination.

Art is a huge part of Bentonville's identity. From world-class museums like Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and decades of history at the Museum of Native American History, to public art on area businesses and public spaces, Bentonville's art scene is constantly growing.

Bentonville schools are in the best school district in Arkansas, Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, and public school district ratings.

In the business sector, the Northwest Arkansas region is one of the fastest growing in the country, and Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, and Bentonville represent an interesting mix of small cities that work together to create an appealing 35-mile corridor.

Each of these towns brings something different to the area. Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas and has an attractive campus, historic buildings, a progressive feel, with the usual college-town amenities. Springdale is anchored by the headquarters and major operations of poultry processor Tyson Foods. Rogers was once a sleepy, nondescript Southern town, but has boomed as a family-oriented residential area while Bentonville is the headquarters for retail giant Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart earns superlatives all over the country and no single employer wields the economic influence that Wal-Mart has in Bentonville and the surrounding area. The headquarters employs some 13,000, but that is not the whole story, as scores of other companies, supplying everything from product to marketing to legal services, make the area their home.

All of this leads to a booming economy. The founding Walton family and the Jones family of trucking industry lineage have left a strong cultural imprint on the area as well. The Walton family has endowed a large performing arts center and a $50 million Walton family supported art museum, Crystal Bridges. The Jones family has endowed the Jones Center for Families among other assets.
