Meet Grandview Baptist Church:

Grandview Baptist Church has been in existence since 1889, when it was first organized as a Swedish Baptist General Conference (now Converge) church in Davenport, Iowa.  Our location and building have changed several times throughout the years. However, since the beginning we have consistently moved forward as a group of faithful believers in Jesus Christ, firmly committed to sharing His good news with others in our community, and around the world.  During those 130 years our people, our methods, our ministry and our “look” have changed significantly, but our vow to remain true to the inspired Word of God and His commands has not.

Grandview has been blessed to have strong, solid pastoral leadership, with two senior pastors serving over the last 37 years.  That time frame included a two-year period with an interim pastor, during which Grandview adopted an Elder lead form of governance.  Prior to and during that 37-year period we have played a part in planting 4 churches in the Quad Cities area and have seen many make first time commitments and recommitments to Jesus.  We have also raised up and sent out many missionaries and others into full time ministry, while seeking to instill a passion in all for discipleship. We have celebrated successes and have learned from our failures as well.  As a result, we understand that Grandview must stay vigilant in our efforts to stay relevant, while always remaining true to the Word. Accordingly, we recently engaged the services of the “Unstuck Group” to help us identify core issues that we can work on to get out of any ruts and into a groove.

One of the core areas identified as part of the “unstuck” process was to develop a succession plan for our Senior Pastor, who announced his intention to retire. We are praying for and preparing to enthusiastically welcome a new senior pastor with fresh ideas and vision to join us in ministry. We are excited for the part our new pastor will bring to the table, alongside the current group of committed Grandview believers, in contributing to the next 130 years of Grandview history.
