About the Director of Students:

The vision of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is to lead all generations to become transformed followers of Jesus, for the flourishing of our city and beyond.

The Highland Student Ministry seeks to lead all generations to become transformed followers of Jesus through the proclamation of the Gospel, equipping and resourcing families for life and godliness and discipling students to be Christ-followers and make Christ-followers. The Director of Students will play an integral role in furthering this vision through oversight of Highlands Students.

HPPC Students 1

The Director of Students Will:

  • Oversee ministry to 7-12 graders and their parents in partnership with the Minister to Families and Kids.

  • Establish annual ministry goals with Highland Students staff and leaders that are consistent with overall church mission, vision and values.

  • Provide support and development (training and supervising) and nurturing of Highland Students staff and volunteers.

  • Provide administrative leadership for long-range planning, budgeting, and calendar coordination.

  • Manage Highland Student operations with Highland Students Coordinator utilizing all platforms… Slack, HUB, Teams, Zoom, etc.

  • Create and maintain an annual calendar of events, programs, trips, and retreats utilizing the calendaring process.

  • Communications: coordinate with the Communications Department to ensure effective overall communication of Highland Students Ministry to parents, volunteers, and the general body of the church.

  • Manage an annual budget that reflects Highland Students annual goals and vision.

  • Collaborate with other departments and ministry areas of HP Pres to ensure synchronicity, alignment and efficiency of the ministry.

  • Ensure that all volunteers comply with the Child Protection Policy, including: screening, background checks, safety training, etc.

  • Supervision of the Highland Students Ministry Residents and Ministry Coordinator.     

  • Motivates and empowers team members; sets expectations.  

  • Holds regularly scheduled team meetings and keeps the team informed.  

  • Holds the team accountable to outcomes, responsibilities and workplace expectations listed on the position description, including regular reviews.  

  • Works with HR and immediate supervisor in the hiring and off-boarding process.   

  • Approves time-off, time-sheets, over-time, comp-time, etc.

  • Increased student participation and excitement.

  • Students serving the larger body of HP Pres.

  • “Ministry of longevity” from being consistently present over a long period of time.

  • Accomplishing Vision 100 goals with students trusting in Jesus and developing as leaders.

  • Excellent communication between the staff team and other departments, parents, volunteers and students.

  • Increased volunteer participation and discipleship.

What You Bring: 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 3-5 years of experience in Student Ministry 

  • Intermediate to advanced level of Microsoft Office software

What it's Like to Live in Dallas, Texas: 

Dallas is a richly diverse city with various cultures, religions, and lifestyles. It's located in what's known as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan area. It's surrounded by numerous cities like Arlington, Plano, Garland, Irving, McKinney, Frisco, and Denton. Dallas offers its residents opportunities to explore authentic arts, diverse music, great food, and historical landmarks.

The area is fully equipped with many places to see and explore, including the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden with 66 acres of tranquil environment located at the banks of White Rock Lake, provides a peaceful outdoor escape from the city, among many other green spaces and parks, walking trails, and recreational areas. There's also the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, a museum including a timeline to explore the presidency and life of John F. Kennedy, and the African American Museum. Also, since Dallas is also known for its great restaurants and culinary scene - enjoy a meal with an excellent view at Cloud Nine Café or Chef Wolfgang Puck's Five Sixty restaurant.

With that being said, there's no shortage of things to do and places to explore; Dallas is a great place to call home.
