About the Minister of Campus Development:

The Minister of Campus Development will work with the Campus Pastor to champion the vision of Houston’s First Baptist Cypress and to develop systems and strategies to enable the church to fulfill its mission. This individual will be key in leading the staff and provide resources necessary for their ministries to operate more effectively by serving as a vision-carrier, minister, shepherd, administrator, and coach. 

Serving as the right hand to the Campus Pastor, the Minister of Campus Development is responsible for assisting in the overall leadership and direction of church staff, leading all functional areas in the accomplishment of the church’s mission. This includes oversight of Family Ministry and Adult Ministry.

The Minister of Campus Development, representing the Campus Pastor, will oversee the infrastructure and systems needed to support the growth of the church. This person will continue to build and manage effective discipleship, missional, educational and administrative systems to best accomplish the vision set forth by the Campus Pastor. 

The Minister of Campus Development will give supervision to the overall church staff, except for the Campus Pastor and Worship. The Minister of Campus Development will assist in determining future personnel needs of the church and will be a partner in conjunction with the Campus Pastor for the hiring and dismissal of personnel to meet those needs. 

The Minister of Campus Development will be able to implement ministry plans which reflect the heart and vision of the Campus Pastor. This person will be able and willing to make difficult decisions and have the hard conversations on behalf of the Campus Pastor.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Seminary or equivalent - strongly preferred
  • 7 - 10 years of ministry experience
  • The Minister of Campus Development should possess a broad knowledge of strategic leadership and have successfully led in a medium to large-size high-growth church. This person will have proven experience in team building and training leaders, as well as an ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.

Goals and Expectations

  • Support and represent the Campus Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s mission through ministry effectiveness evaluation, discernment, decision-making, planning, and overall direction of church staff. 
  • Lead the ministry staff in the establishment and ongoing direction of ministries that effectively reaches the greater Cypress community with the gospel. 
  • Facilitate an annual strategic planning process including evaluation of ministry performance; review of mission, vision, and core values; development of key objectives and tactics; and establishment of annual goals. 
  • Champion the development of infrastructure by all ministry and support areas to facilitate the continued growth of the church. 
  • Support and champion the ministry of the Campus Pastor in all conversations and actions.

  • Has strong administrative giftedness, along with excellent verbal and written skills. 
  • Embraces the second chair in leadership and is secure in their giftings. 
  • Has the ability to think creatively, strategically, and innovatively regarding how to help the local church and its staff as effectively as possible. The person who succeeds in this role will likely have an entrepreneurial approach to ministry. 
  • Possesses a collaborative conflict resolution style and a proven ability to navigate the complex systems of a church environment. 
  • Heart of a shepherd, be able to lead in a highly relational atmosphere.
  • Has the desire to understand and embrace the vision of Houston’s First Baptist. 
  • Is a team player and team builder who focuses on the good of the entire church. 
  • Possesses a Christ-honoring lifestyle marked by spiritual and emotional maturity. Being “above reproach” is critical for the success of this individual.

We have great shopping, restaurants and are a short drive from downtown Houston. In Houston, we have the zoo, aquarium, great shopping as well as a theater district. It's home to the Houston Astros, Rockets, and Texans, so sporting events for entertainment are endless.
Throughout the year, the weather is hot but enjoyable for most of the year. The Cypress area allows people to experience a great community with direct access to big-city amenities. Whether it's going for a walk in the park or a family day downtown, there's no shortage of things to do.
