Meet Hume Lake Christian Camp: 

Our History

In 1945, several hard-working, Christian men came together in the valley town of Dinuba to discuss plans for a Christian Bible camp. They began regular prayer meetings to seek God’s will and plan. On January 9, 1946, these men purchased 320 acres of lakeshore property, including the Hume Lake Hotel, store, service station, post office, 22 cottages, and 22 boats. In the summer of 1946, 670 campers attended Hume Lake Conferences and were attended by 15 volunteer staff. The vision, patience, and labor of these men, in response to the Holy Spirit, birthed Hume Lake Christian Camps. 

The conference center grounds are dedicated to the glory of God and the proclaiming of the Kingdom of His Son, Jesus our Savior. Since that first summer of camping in 1946, more than 1.5 million young people and adults have been exposed to God’s love and wonderful plan for their lives. Today, Hume Lake Christian Camp has expanded to 365 acres in the Sequoia National Monument and we also own 431 acres in the Berkshire Mountain region of Western Massachusetts. 

Hume Lake New England

In 1941, New England Keswick was established in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts. For seventy years it faithfully provided Christian camping with a deep desire to see students and adults come to know Jesus as Lord. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Hume Lake Christian Camps began their ministry in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near King’s Canyon National Park. Since 1946, Hume has served over one million campers and continues to clearly present the Gospel in each and every camp it offers. It was in 2010 that God allowed these two camps with the same passion and mission to collide.

New England Keswick had found themselves lacking the financial support needed to sustain camp and had been praying that God would provide a way to continue to use their land to bring people to Himself. The staff and Board of Directors at Hume had been praying and searching for nearly twenty years for the property to start a camp on the East coast. It was in answer to these prayers that God had Keswick and Hume meet.

In the summer of 2011, Hume began to help run the camp at Keswick, and by the following summer, Hume New England was officially established. Hume’s staff and leadership feel extremely privileged to have been welcomed into the New England community and have a deep respect for the tradition and culture it holds. It is Hume’s most sincere desire to build lasting relationships with local churches in order to provide an outstanding camp experience for students and adults to grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

About the New England Site Director:

The New England Site Director provides supervisory leadership and coordination over all of Hume Lake New England. This includes, but is not limited to, supervisory oversight of Hume Lake New England staff (Full time, part-time and seasonal). This position provides a specific focus on the day-to-day operational activities supporting Hume Lake New England ministries. The New England Site Director will also have responsibilities pertaining to the assigned departmental job responsibilities and may also be called on to assist in matters of public and external relations, fundraising, and other duties as mutually determined.

The New England Site Director Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for contributing to and carrying out the overall vision and direction for New England, in partnership with HLCC senior leadership, to include specific goals and objectives that are part of a long-term strategic plan to maximize Ministry opportunities.

  • Responsible for growing the ministry at New England through achievable collaborative marketing plans and by creating irresistible camping environments that contribute to retention and growth.

  • Responsible for recruiting and retaining exceptional full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff who will help achieve the overall ministry objectives of Hume New England.

  • Responsible for preparing employees to achieve excellence in their work by providing training, mentoring, discipline, performance evaluation, and overall team building throughout the staff of New England.  

  • Responsible for regularly evaluating programs for quality control, excellence, and effectiveness in accomplishing HLCC’s Mission Statement and the ministry objectives for Hume New England.

  • Responsible for ensuring that public entities, with which the ministry of Hume Lake comes in contact, shall be treated with honesty, professionalism, integrity, and in a loving, Christ-like spirit.

  • Responsible for ensuring the Hume New England budget is balanced and is derived from a long-range plan, and that all financial corporate policies and procedures are followed under the direction of HLCC’s CFO.

  • Responsible to ensure the facilities are maintained and/or improved the facilities, including buildings, equipment, and property, to support, enhance, and enable the ongoing mission of HLCC and New England, while providing for the overall safety of guests, residents, and staff, while pursuing constant improvement in the quality of New England’s facilities.

What You Bring: 

Education & Experience

  • Business degree or background preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of ministry experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the ability to lead at an Executive level.

  • Thorough attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle and safeguard highly confidential and sensitive information/resources.

  • Strong organizational and personal/relational skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including communicating in public forums.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Evident commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to share the knowledge of Jesus Christ with others.
