The Role: The Care Pastor of Lone Star Cowboy Church will be responsible for overseeing the provision of high-quality pastoral care to church members and their families.

The depth of their unique ministries - including a rodeo camp, arena ministry, and Lone Star Beef program - speaks to their experience and perspective of the Montgomery area and their heart for their community and those who call it home.

About the Care Pastor:

The Care Pastor is responsible for managing the Care Department at Lone Star Cowboy Church. This position oversees the provision of high-quality pastoral care to church members and their families; ensures the education and training of the Care Department ministry teams; and communicates with the Care Department and Pastoral Staff.

The Care Pastor Will: 

Operational Duties

  • Oversee the day to day leadership of departmental paid staff.

  • Provide ministry leadership and development for all ministry teams under Care Ministry, including support-groups.

  • Provide leadership, support and coordination of the staff’s activities within and related to the Care Ministry.

  • Coordinate and communicate with other ministry teams regarding the activities of the Care Ministry.

  • Ensure that all requests for pastoral care are responded to in a timely manner.

  • Prepare and/or review internal and external communication for the Care Ministry.

  • Oversee keeping each department updated with any care needs inside their ministry.

  • Make assessments and/or refer to appropriate internal or external care and counseling resources. This may include referring to local agencies in providing care and rehabilitation.

  • Oversee the financial reporting and annual budget for the Care Ministry area. Also, oversee the day to day stewardship of the budget.

  • Provide resources, documentation and communication for leadership as directed.

  • Collaborate with ministry team leaders to identify, recruit and train new leaders and team members.

  • Maintain confidentiality of individual membership records, pastoral counseling, and much of the correspondence of staff.

  • Oversee the social media communications of the Care Ministry.

  • Model lifelong learning by continuing to grow in your personal leadership.

  • Attend trainings and continuing education offered by Lone Star Cowboy Church or at Lone Star Cowboy Church in order to grow personally and as a Christian.

  • Be knowledgeable of ethical and safe practices that minimize the church’s liability in the Care Ministry.

  • Attend meetings: Includes the weekly staff meeting and any ministry team meeting related to the Care Ministry.

  • Attend LSCC church service if scheduled to work on Sunday and be a member of Lone Star Cowboy Church.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Ministerial Duties

  • Provide pastoral counseling.

  • Serve as a Mentor to ministry students.

  • Prepare and perform funeral services.

  • Meet regularly with ministry team leaders for individual spiritual development, prayer and problem solving, including goals and objectives for each ministry team.

  • Equip ministry teams to ensure that each person visited in the hospital and each shut-in is offered the opportunity to receive Christ and take part in the church ordinances.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervision and development of the Counselor and Care Assistant Director.

What You Bring: 

Education & Experience

  • Bible College degree and ordination required.

  • Master’s degree in Christian Counseling or related fields strongly preferred.

  • 5 years of counseling-related ministry experience preferred.

  • Experience in church ministry.

  • Flexible and cooperative in working with others.

  • Trained and experienced in developing and leading volunteers and teams.

  • Trained and experienced in conflict resolution, substance/alcohol additions, sexual additions, men’s issues with sexual factors, emotional and physical trauma recovery.

Skills & Abilities

One of the oldest towns in Texas, Montgomery, part of the greater Houston area, is a homey town located west of Conroe and Northwest of Houston. With just 988 people, it has a small-town feel but is still very accessible to all the big city offers. Gorgeous Texas countryside, rolling hills, and farmland frame a historic downtown, suburban neighborhoods with a great cost of living, and excellent schools in Conroe and the Woodlands.
