MAIN-USE

Meet St. Mark Missionary Church:

St. Mark Missionary Church is a community of believers who are committed to building fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. In 1962, a small group of families began meeting with a vision to raise up a church in the community north of the St. Joseph River in Mishawaka, Indiana. The early heartbeat of these families was focused on ministry and discipleship while reaching out to the local community in tangible ways. The Lord blessed the church as they began to grow, always remaining steadfast to the mission. Land was acquired, and a church building was erected in 1967.

As the church grew in numbers, it also grew in ministry. In 2003, through difficult circumstances, the church was able to occupy its current home on Bittersweet Road. This new home has been an incredible blessing where ministry has blossomed, and the congregation has flourished.

St. Mark has a resilient congregation who love to serve and remain faithful to the Lord’s work in their lives. Through a series of financial campaigns and years of ministry in a somewhat limited capacity environment, the church has emerged on the other side as a debt-free congregation with a beautiful facility and campus poised to continue God’s work inside the congregation, in the local neighborhoods, and around the world.

What it's Like to Live in Mishawaka, Indiana:

St. Mark Missionary Church is located in Mishawaka, Indiana, a community located along the border of Indiana and Michigan, and is nestled along the wandering path of the St. Joseph River. The area encompassing the Indiana-Michigan border is commonly known as “Michiana.” There are over 600,000 people who live in the 3 counties that make up the church footprint (St. Joseph and Elkhart County, IN and Berrien County, MI).

Michiana is a prime location for transportation of people and goods around the country and the world, making it one of the busiest spots in “America’s Crossroads”. The church sits approximately 100 miles from downtown Chicago and is an easy 2 ½ hour drive to Indianapolis.  The beautiful coasts and towns that sit along Lake Michigan are a quick trip for an easy getaway.  East of the area is a world-famous Amish community called Shipshewana, where it’s not uncommon to spot a horse-drawn buggy on major highways. Grand Rapids, Toledo, and Fort Wayne are all an easy day trip from Michiana.

Educational opportunities abound with options as diverse as large public-school systems to private Christian, Catholic, and Montessori options and even include our own local home-school co-op group that uses the church facilities.  Local colleges and universities include Bethel University (our highly ranked denominational university) and the world-famous University of Notre Dame. Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) offers traditional undergraduate and graduate programs, technical certification, and pre-professional programs. St Mary’s College, a well-known girls-only Catholic school, sits adjacent to Holy Cross College, made famous by being the place where the character “Rudy” attended prior to being admitted to Notre Dame to play football.

Michiana, a beautiful area with great culture, history, and pride, would make a great place to settle down. It is a vibrant and growing community with a moderate cost of living and property values; a great place to bring a family and make a wonderful home!
