The Role: The CoPastor will walk alongside the Senior Pastor for a time frame of six months to two years  in which time they will learn the DNA of the church and glean from the Senior Pastor. This role will then transition to the Senior Pastor in which the individual will fully take on the teaching, shepherding, and leadership aspects of Table Rock church.

Meet Table Rock Fellowship: 

Table Rock Fellowship is located in Medford, Oregon, and is a passionate, growing church that wants to know Jesus and make Him known in their community.

Table Rock has just acquired a piece of property (their North Campus), and also has a school for preschool through third grade, with 140 kids attending. God is doing big things in their midst, with an auditorium being remodeled and dreams for a multisite campus in a few years.

Pastor Tom Sabens founded Table Rock Fellowship in 1997. Over the next 17 years the church went through both rich and difficult seasons. Pastor Sabens and the staff built the church into a large congregation with around 1,400 weekly attendees.

In 2015, the church was moving out of one of those difficult seasons when Bill Muir was asked to fill the role of Teaching Pastor. In 2016, the church asked him to accept the position permanently.

Under Bill’s direction, the church has grown from 500 to approximately 1,500 attendees per week between the Saturday night and two Sunday morning services. Weekly attendance continues to steadily increase and we have transformed into a healthy and growing congregation. Bill now feels it is the appropriate time to find his successor to take over the role of Senior Pastor within next six to twenty four months. Table Rock is now embarking on the process to find the CoPastor, who will in turn, step into the role of Senior Pastor within the next 2 years.

 

 

About the CoPastor: 

The effective CoPastor will achieve the following goals during the first six months to two years of work:

Phase 1 (CoPastor): 

  • Join the TRF staff in establishing and executing the overall vision and mission of TRF.

  • Establish a dynamic group of singles and couples between 25 and 45.

  • Disciple men and help establish and maintain a discipleship program with the goal of engaging as many people as possible within the church and equipping them to disciple others, for service, and for missions.  

  • Lead and develop ministry staff/team. 

  • Speak one to three weekends a month in front of the whole fellowship.

  • Speak/teach weekly at our mid-week study.

  • Complete weekly staff reports and updates. Establish and have experience managing (or be willing to learn how to manage) the annual church budget.

  • Be present at all weekend services for prayer and counsel when not engaged in other aspects of ministry.  

  • Be available for counsel and prayer with church individuals and families throughout the week.

  • Be mentored by the Senior Pastor with the expectation that the Senior Pastor responsibilities can be transferred to the CoPastor over time.  The CoPastor will consistently move toward becoming the Senior Pastor within two years or less.  

Phase 2 (Transition to Senior Pastor): 

  • Speak  weekends 

  • Lead and manage staff 

  • Vision casting 

  • Shepherd flock on weekends between services and on a limited basis throughout the week 

  • Continue discipling 

  • Counseling 

  • Manage Conflict

  • Misc

What you bring: 

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be a leader.

  • Be a dynamic expositional teacher that teachers with transparency, humor, and truth.

  • Have at least five years of pastoral teaching experience primarily to adults

  • Possess the desire and ability to lead a church of 3,000 people.

  • Have a bachelor’s degree.  A seminary degree would be a plus.

Personal Characteristics

  • Possesses great teaching and preaching skills. 

  • Has a strong faith in Jesus and an active outward commitment to grow in their faith and mentor others, especially younger people, with their actions as well as their words. 

  • Possesses a winsome and magnetic personality to attract people to the church and keep them coming back week after week, especially those who are first time attendees. 

  • Is relational and a shepherd to the church body and staff.

  • Is a leader of leaders, who is able to equip others to help lead. 

  • Can create and cast vision well.  

  • Is a strategic thinker.

  • Is an excellent mentor, coach, teacher, and discipler who does these things well together, but also understands the difference and importance of these by themselves. 

  • Has strong organization skills. 

  • Has a commitment to personal and professional growth. 

  • Understands the culture of Table Rock and the community. 

  • Has excellent relational skills, especially in equipping, partnering, recruiting, caring for, and training.

What it's like to live in Medford, Oregon: 

Medford is historically an agricultural and timber processing center known for fruit growing (particularly its pears). More recently, it has evolved as a cultural and residential crossroads between California and the Pacific Northwest.

The city itself has undergone some renewal and has a full complement of shopping and retail establishments popular with locals and Californians passing through to avoid sales tax. The timber industry is active, but in long-term decline.

Skiing, water-sports, mountain biking, rafting, and hiking opportunities are abundant in the nearby mountains and Rogue River Valley. Ashland, ten miles south, is a cute college town and arts community anchored by Southern Oregon University and a renowned annual Shakespeare festival.

The entire area is growing rapidly as more seek its attractive climate and surroundings and proximity to California features south and Pacific Northwest features north. It’s a great place to call home!
