Union Baptist Church was founded in 1888 by 25 former slaves. Union is the oldest African American Baptist Church in Lower Fairfield County, Connecticut.

About the Senior Pastor:

Union Baptist Church in Stamford, Connecticut, is seeking a full-time Senior Pastor to lead our congregation of approximately 650 with the competence and ability to reach all generations. The Senior Pastor shall have the support of a ministerial team, administrative staff, and more than twenty ministries to support the vision and mission of the church.  

The position of Senior Pastor requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The Senior Pastor is required to have regular office hours, be accessible to members of the congregation, and communicate with the church staff.


The Senior Pastor Will: 

  • Provide Senior Pastoral and spiritual care, counsel, and leadership.

  • Deliver sermons that connect contemporary life experiences with the scriptures in a manner that inspires and engages the congregation.

  • Deliver and provide a strong teaching ministry. 

  • Plan (or assist in the planning) and execute the development of ministry leadership.

  • Develop and/or support programs that encourage discipleship.

  • Develop and support outreach efforts through evangelism.

  • Participate in community collaborations.

  • Establish and maintain communication with members, especially the sick and home-bound members.

  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all ministries, boards, committees, and organizations within the church.

  • Collaborate with the Minister of Music to achieve a cohesive worship experience.


What You Bring: 

Education & Experience

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited university is required.

  • A Seminary degree is preferred.

  • At least 5 years of pastoral experience (Associate/Executive) in one location.

  • Ordained in a Baptist church.

It is especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves turn colors. Stamford also has parks along the Long Island Sound that are great for boating and fishing.
