The Role: Worship Pastor
Meet Westminster Chapel:
Westminster Chapel is a place where people of all ages and walks of life can explore and deepen their faith as followers of Jesus. We are "a community of grace" that strives to build relationships with God and each other. Beginning with just 13 families, the Lord has blessed and grown our congregation over the past 50+ years. Today, Westminster has many ministries that meet a wide range of needs. Whether you are beginning a journey of faith or are a long-time follower of Jesus, this is a place where you can belong, find healing, and take the next step in your faith.
In 1964, thirteen families made a decision to establish a Bible-based church called Westminster Chapel. Pastor Wilbur Antisdale led the growing fellowship in a downtown Bellevue rented funeral home. By 1969 a chapel and education building were completed as the 500-member church began holding 2 worship services. Faced with steady growth, the congregation bought additional land in 1977 and began plans for a new worship center, office and classroom building.
The first service in the current sanctuary was held in 1980, and three years later Pastor "A" retired. Mark Neuenschwander was called as Westminster's second senior pastor and the church continued to grow. Having established a very strong global missions department, more and more ministries were launched to serve the spiritual, physical and relational needs of the congregation and surrounding region. Seeking to support and nurture churches and other Christian organizations, Westminster Chapel became a key Christian and community focal point.
In 1993, Gary Gulbranson accepted the call to serve as the third senior pastor in Westminster Chapel's history. In his 27 year tenure Gary and his wife Jorie helped Westminster become an increasingly welcoming place to its congregation and visitors from surrounding Eastside communities, across the country and around the globe. Their mutual passion was to communicate the love of Christ in such a way that developing a personal relationship with Him becomes irresistible.
Just over a year ago, in December 2019, Ryan Falls was called to be Westminster’s fourth senior pastor. During his short time in this role Ryan has guided the church through the COVID-19 pandemic and has brought a welcomed perspective and renewed energy. He has led an effort to bring focus and alignment to the church’s ministries and has placed a strong emphasis on leadership development and reaching out into the community.
Westminster Chapel now finds itself at the center of an ethnically and culturally diverse urban center, with needs and challenges dramatically different from the suburban community of Bellevue just a few years ago. As God blesses and prospers the work and ministry of Westminster Chapel, it will continue to impact lives and eternity.
Where did the name Westminster Chapel come from?
Westminster Chapel gets its name from the Westminster Confession. This confession was written in 1647 as a way to unify people from different backgrounds around a strong confession of faith. Westminster was founded on a similar vision of including people from a variety of spiritual heritages who held a strong statement of faith in common.
Our community and church are in the midst of significant transition. During this exciting time we are experiencing a shift from a monocultural, suburban church to a multicultural, urban church. God is literally bringing the world to our doorsteps! Our location in the heart of the high tech industry center that Bellevue has become means that people from all over the world are moving to our city. The opportunity to meet these people and share the love of Christ with them is a significant motivator. We also want to equip them to live out their faith where God has placed them, sharing their faith, working as unto the Lord, demonstrating God's purpose.
The story of Westminster Chapel has much more to be written. With a new senior pastor in place now is an exciting time to be a part of what God is doing with this local church. We believe that this is a tremendous opportunity for the right Worship Pastor to join us as we continue to make an incredible Kingdom impact in our community.
