Christ Church began as a gathering of 17 people in a home in Lake Forest, Illinois, in 1980. Nine years later, they moved into their Lake Forest campus. This campus is known at the broadcast location and houses many of the central services or ministry champions. In 2011, they partnered with the former Evangelical Church of Highland Park to create a second campus. In 2012, they created a video venue at the Lake Forest campus. Then in 2014, they partnered with Crossroads Church of Grayslake to add their third campus, Christ Church Crossroads.
A congregation now gathering more than 1700 every weekend, Christ Church is still looking for ways to reach people. Their commitment to giving glory to God, loving people, studying the Bible and serving the communities continues strong. Today, Christ Church has nine services on three campuses. They are vested in nearby communities, such as North Chicago and Waukegan, where they partner with over 20 community partners to help under resourced communities know the love of the Christ.
As a chief communications strategist, the Director of Marketing & Communications will provide strategic oversight for church-wide communications, media, and marketing. Here is Senior Pastor Mike Woodruff giving an overview of the position:
This position will oversee and implement the church’s brand messaging, and ensure the accuracy of its delivery, by producing each element with creativity and consistency. The successful candidate for this role will be an expert at capturing the life changing stories happening within the lives of Christ Church attendees and in creating multiple mediums to communicate such stories. This individual will collaborate with the church Department Heads and Ministry Leads to develop a comprehensive communications strategy. He/she will additionally serve as the primary media spokesperson for Christ Church and its constituents. The Director of Marketing & Communications will be exclusively responsible for all communication components across all campuses.
The successful candidate for this position will have a proven track record and experience in internal/external communication, marketing, advertising, media, and public relations in either a business, church, non-profit, para-church, or similar setting. The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in team building, creative thinking, systems management, and creative problem solving. Exceptional technical skills in written and oral communication are imperative for this role, while graphic design, web, and multimedia experience are highly desirable qualifications.
A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a similar field from a four-year college or university, alongside 4-5 years of related experience and/or training in a professional field related to communications and marketing is mandatory for this position. In addition, while not required, it is highly desired that the candidate have a good understanding and familiarity with the Bible.
The broadcast location for central services is located in Lake Forest, IL. Lake Forest is situated just outside Chicago along lake Michigan. According to the 2010 census, it contained a population of 19,375. First developed in 1857, Lake Forest remains as one of the most scenic, historical, and architecturally significant suburbs of Chicago. Lake Forest is surround by many north shore communities that are active in Christ Church. Communities include Lake Bluff (which also feeds into Lake Forest High School), Deerfield, Highland Park, Highwood, Lincolnshire, Vernon Hills, Gurnee, and others.
The North Shore consists of many affluent suburbs north of Chicago, bordering the shores of Lake Michigan. This area remains one of the most highly educated areas in the United States, with seven of its communities ranking in the top quintile of U.S. household income. For all its affluence, attitude, and achievement, these areas are welcoming places that offer a range of housing options, from studio apartments and ranch homes to mini and mega mansions. Although the wealthy thrive in this setting, one does not need to be wealthy to live well here. Rich in history and inclusion, diverse ethnicities are welcome in these suburbs. Iconic for its leisurely lifestyle and scenery, these regions perfectly combine its proximity to downtown Chicago with a charm and diversity found within its prosperous living.
The Highland Park Campus is located in Highland Park, IL. This town includes a lively downtown area with shopping, restaurants and other activities. The campus is located in the heart of downtown.
The Crossroads campus is located at the corner of Libertyville and Grayslakes, IL.
