Rock Hill Baptist Church seeks to glorify God by being witnesses of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their homes, the community, and world through intentional ministry meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people. It desires to draw people into its community of likeminded believers in order to disciple them to an authentic and visible faith that affects various spheres of influence beginning from the home, to the community, and extending into the world.
Rock Hill Baptist Church is completely autonomous but cooperatively affiliates with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
About the Position:
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Missions & Discipleship Pastor of Rock Hill Baptist Church will be responsible for the overall vision, leadership, strategy, promotion, and execution of the dynamic and growing discipleship and missions ministry. In the area of missions, this individual will help translate the ministry’s vision into practical strategies and activities, and expand it through new/existing local, regional, and global partnerships. In terms of discipleship, this person will largely focus on developing leaders and creating a uniformed structure within the scope of discipleship across the ministries of the church.
This position will primarily ensure that the Rock Hill community is connecting with one another and building community through a strong, healthy, and growing small group ministry.
While numerical growth in the ministry (both participants and leaders) is expected, the primary measure by which the new Pastor of Discipleship & Missions will be evaluated is the development of reproducing disciples who are actively involved in meaningful and practical ways in serving others in Christ's name.
What We Are Searching For:
They will show a high degree of effectiveness in leadership, communication, public speaking, training and equipping. Previous work in a multi-staff, multi-site setting is strongly preferred. In addition, the individual should show an ability to connect across all generations, ethnicities, and socio-economic lines.
Formal education is not a predetermining factor for the selection of the new Pastor of Discipleship & Missions. However, they will, at minimum, hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, from an accredited college or university.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a setting committed to reaching the unchurched and building reproducing disciples, working within a community, and promoting innovation through collaboration. They will also have a proven track record of training and equipping men and women to become committed disciples of Jesus who live out His life in a world of need.
About the Location:
Rock Hill Baptist Church straddles the Chandler-Brownsboro area, which functions as one community. This region occupies over 30,000 people within a seven-mile radius of the church. The church draws guests and members from Chandler, Brownsboro and surrounding towns such as Athens, Lindale, Tyler, Van and the smaller towns such as Edom, La Rue, Poyner, Leagueville, Martin’s Mill, Ben Wheeler.
The church consists of more members from Chandler, while it also attracts a significant portion of its attendees from Brownsboro. Considered a bedroom community of Greater Tyler, the City of Chandler serves as the hub of community with many amenities and activities. It is a city that regularly experiences rapid growth in population as well as housing, economy, and business development. Chandler’s quality of life characteristics are parallel to their city brand, “City with a Heart”. People move to and live in Chandler for a number of reasons. Access to health care, ability to work and raise a family, low crime rate and availability of recreational activities are primary characteristics people consider in choosing a place to live. Chandler has all of these and more.
Brownsboro, the oldest town in Henderson County, is centrally located between cities of Athens and Tyler. It is a town of 900 to 1,000 residents, covering approximately 3-miles in distance. People in Brownsboro have a sustained a long heritage of morals and values, which in turn, leads to a strong work ethic, translating into growth and prosperity of the community. Brownsboro exemplifies small town living in the easy, relaxed way of a by-gone era.
