About the Organization:
In 1962, the New River Baptist Association survey revealed the potential for a new church in the Cape Fear area. After a few months of meeting in dry cleaners, a fire station, and a home, Fellowship Baptist Chapel was started with 68 people. In 1963, the Fellowship Chapel purchased property on Village Drive and was renamed to Village Drive Baptist Church.
By October 1965, the church was formally constituted with 296 members. During the 70's, the church started a weekday daycare and also what has now become the Carolina College of Biblical Studies (located across the street from The Village campus today). Dr. Bruce Martin was called to be the pastor in 1991. He retired in 2016. During his 25-year tenure, the church grew exponentially. The church relocated in 1996 and was renamed, Village Baptist Church. The Village Christian Academy (K-12) was established in 1998. VCA has been the leading private school in the region for several years. Village Baptist Church has also planted 3 local churches and has several short-term mission trips throughout the year. There are 3 families from Village that serve in full time missions around the world.
In December 2016, Dr. Richard Mark Lee began serving as lead pastor. The church is having a resurgence of hope for the future with a vision to connect with and reach those in our community, those within the nearby Military installation and the next generation. Rediscovering mission, values, strategy and vision has been the focus thus far with an intentional focus on the military, students and children.
The church is resilient, with a rich history and legacy, and grounded in their Baptist roots while looking forward to the future with anticipation for all that is to come.
About the Position:
The Youth and Family Pastor will serve as the chief leader and communicator of youth and family ministries at The Village Baptist Church. While all ministries at The Village Baptist function within the framework of the larger church vision, the Youth and Family Pastor will seek to creatively implement that vision in a relevant and effective manner within the Preschool, Kids, Youth, and Adult Ministries.
Currently, more than 50 youth (6th -12th grades)100 children (K-5) and 85 preschoolers (birth to 4yrs) take part in the weekend programming and are served by more than 70 volunteers each week. About 430 adults are involved in Sunday Morning on campus life groups. Continued high growth is anticipated at The Village Baptist for the foreseeable future. In addition, future plans include the building of a dedicated Youth and Children’s state-of-the-art facilities. The new Youth and Family Pastor will have a key role in shaping the new facilities that will minister to children, students, and their families in the coming years.
What We Are Searching For / Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree is required for this position. Seminary experience or a further degree is not required but is a plus.
The ideal candidate will have five to eight years of experience and a proven record as a gifted leader and communicator in Children's, Student or Family ministry. Experience including with camps, para-church ministries, or with youth and children are acceptable.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a setting committed to reaching the unreached, working within a community, and promoting innovation through collaboration. They will show a high degree of effectiveness in recruitment and retention of volunteers, growing a dynamic ministry with outstanding leadership skills. Work in a large, multi-staff setting is strongly preferred.

Dubbed the “Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces,” Fort Bragg/ Pope Air Force Base includes the XVIII Airborne Corps, the 82nd Airborne Division, United States Special Operations Command (USASOC), United States Forces Command and Army Reserve Command (FORSCOM), and 1st Special Forces Command.
Fort Bragg has a proud culture and rich history dating back to its beginnings in 1918 as Camp Bragg, an artillery training ground named for the Confederate general Braxton Bragg. Soldiers from Fort Bragg have participated in every war since World War I. ‘All American’ paratroopers from the 82nd are most famous for jumping behind enemy lines during World War II, and the Division has been America’s vanguard in every crisis since.
Fort Bragg is located just west of Fayetteville, North Carolina. This massive installation is one of the largest in the world, covering over 251 square miles in four counties in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, and is home to more military personnel than any other Army installation in the United States. The strong military presence drives a stable, family friendly community that supports high levels of job security and economic value. Families and servicemen and women are continuously moving to the area, creating a more diverse and multiethnic city with a younger average age that appeals to many who consider it for whatever stage of life they are in. Most industries in Fayetteville are related to military needs, support the military community, are veterans of the military, or in some way integrated.
Fayetteville and Fort Bragg also offer tons of options for dining, entertainment and shopping. You name it, Fayetteville and Fort Bragg have got it: sophisticated restaurants, museums, unique shopping, musical and sporting events, kid-friendly fun, elegant and quirky art galleries, gardens, trails and parks, not to mention, as mentioned previously, nearby Fort Bragg that solidifies the city’s deep roots in all things military. In addition to the local entertainment, its proximity to the east coast lifeline, I-95, provides easy access to most of the Eastern Seaboard. For trips within NC, you can take a day trip to Raleigh or an overnight visit to Carolina Beach, Wilmington or Charlotte. Weekend travel to the Mid-Atlantic, Asheville, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and any of the gorgeous beaches that adorn the Carolina coastline is very feasible and a huge perk of living in this area. All in all, Fayetteville is a welcoming, entertaining, and friendly city considered the perfect fit for any couple or family.
