This new leader would need to engage with the community, cultivate donor relationships, and drive financial sustainability for PRM’s growing mission. Finding the right candidate wasn’t just about filling a position—it was about securing the future of PRM’s impact in the Newport News area.
About Peninsula Rescue Mission
Peninsula Rescue Mission is a faith-driven organization dedicated to serving those who are unhoused. Founded in 1966, PRM began as an extension of Norfolk’s Union Mission before becoming an independent entity in the early 1970s.
The ministry provides emergency shelter, meals, and spiritual guidance for men in the Newport News area. PRM prides itself on its commitment to personal accountability and the gospel message, ensuring that every individual they serve is met with dignity and purpose.
With a strategic focus on expansion, PRM is set to open a 20-bed women’s shelter in the coming year, reinforcing their dedication to serving the community. However, to make this vision a reality, they needed a development leader who could navigate fundraising, donor engagement, and community outreach with excellence.
The ideal candidate
PRM sought a director of development who checked these boxes:

- Experienced in fundraising, including grant writing and major gifts cultivation

Strategy and timing
Understanding the urgency and significance of this role, PRM partnered with Vanderbloemen to lead the search. Senior Executive Search Consultant Jay Mitchell and Recruiting Operations Manager Emily Hernandez-Basquez took a hands-on approach, immersing themselves in PRM’s culture and understanding their unique needs.
The Vanderbloemen team implemented a multi-phase search strategy, casting a wide net to attract top candidates. Leveraging social media, networking, and direct outreach, they identified and screened over 200 potential candidates before narrowing the field to a select few who best matched PRM’s vision and values. The team worked closely with PRM’s leadership, ensuring alignment at every step of the process.
About Tiffany Hinson
After an extensive search, PRM found the ideal candidate in Tiffany Hinson.
Tiffany previously served as the director of development for a local Christian school and had been a longtime volunteer at PRM alongside her husband. Her deep connection with the ministry, coupled with her professional expertise, made her a natural fit for the role.
