Meet Cornerstone Presbyterian Church

Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, located in Delafield, Wisconsin, a community within Waukesha County’s “Lake Country” nestled between Milwaukee and Madison, is a 30-year-old Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) congregation. Founded in 1991, the church’s core mission is to be “renewed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ to serve one another and to love Waukesha County”. Rooted in the Reformed tradition, adhering to the Westminster Standards and affirming the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, Cornerstone is a warm, inviting, growing, and multigenerational church with a strong foundation in gospel-centered teaching, active worship, and community engagement through small groups.

About the Associate Pastor of Family Discipleship

The Associate Pastor of Family Discipleship is responsible for developing and implementing a family discipleship ministry that focuses on shepherding and equipping the church’s families to shepherd and raise up its children and youth. The family discipleship ministry is defined as serving the households at Cornerstone with a specific focus on children from birth through high school, in partnership with the entire congregation. The goal is to make resilient disciples of Jesus in an atmosphere that is centered on the gospel, marked by grace and safety, bridges home and church, and is welcoming to families at any place in their faith. We desire to help Cornerstone grow the Kingdom of God through conversions and “re-conversions” by engaging their community together.

The Associate Pastor of Family Discipleship’s responsibilities include:

Setting Vision and Direction

  • In conjunction with the Session, refine and develop a clear vision and philosophy of the church’s ministry to children and youth, and overall strategy for partnering with parents in discipling the next generation.
  • Communicate this vision and strategies effectively and regularly with the church, especially to parents and children.
  • Develop the church’s overall strategy for creating an excitement in the whole church body to see unchurched and dechurched people come to faith in Christ.

Building Structure and Mobilizing Ministry

  • Create a structure for integrating children/youth into the life of our church and members into the life of our children/youth.
  • Mobilize the church to create a culture where all our children and youth are known, cared for, and prayed for by one another.
  • Oversee all staff related to family ministry, including Sunday School teachers and volunteers, Primary Praise directors and Youth Ministry coordinators.
  • Build, direct and coach lay ministry leadership teams to support both Children and Youth ministries.
  • Ensure a regular connection between church and home so that parents experience a supportive partnership in the discipleship of their family, including parents with adult children who have left the faith.
  • Oversee the Outreach Ministry and develop an outreach plan that fits the people and culture of Waukesha County, with a special focus on the neighboring  Lake Country communities.
  • Incorporate ways for new families to the church to be known, know others and engage in the life of the church.
  • Encourage and train church members to embrace a mindset of “faithful presence” of where they live, work and recreate.
  • Train parents and church members to share their faith and to train their children to do likewise.

Shepherding, Teaching, and Care

  • Strive to know the names and needs of the children and youth at Cornerstone and regularly pray for the children, youth, and households of our church.
  • Provide ongoing opportunities for parents and future parents to be equipped as spiritual leaders and models in their homes.
  • Set and enforce policies that protect the safety and well-being of our children and youth.
  • Oversee all children and youth teaching content and curriculum.
  • Lead in the training, equipping, and encouraging of volunteer leaders and teachers in children and youth ministries.
  • Ensure that new children, youth and families experience a warm welcome and feel known.
  • Guide families of the church to interact and reach the unchurched, dechurched, etc.

Pastoral Leadership and Care
