Meet Christ Presbyterian Church

Christ Presbyterian Church (PCA) is located in the western center of the Houston metropolitan area. We are a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). As a church, we are known for having a strong emphasis on reformed theology, rich worship, warm fellowship, and faithful expository preaching.

About the Church Administrator

Working with the CPC staff, Session, Board of Deacons, and various ministry teams, the Church Administrator seeks to ensure that administration of church finances, programs and facilities is provided in an efficient and excellent manner within the approved budget and staffing. This includes the supervision of administrative staff and the allocation of resources that enable and enhance the effective ministries of CPC.

The Church Administrator’s responsibilities include:

  1. Financial Management and Stewardship
    • Budget
      • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, reporting, and forecasting.
      • Oversee annual budget preparation for review by the Finance Committee. Assist in presentations to the Session, Session Committees, and the Board of deacons.
      • Plan and oversee the building and administrative budget accounts, including facility maintenance and vendor contracting.
      • Assist the Personnel Committee and Missions Committee in preparation of the personnel and missions budgets.
      • Manage and assist CPC staff in the preparation of their respective budgets.
      • Manage finances and keep the church within budget.
    • General Accounting & Finance
      • Prepare and present periodic (monthly and other) financial reports to the Pastor, Finance Chairman, and others, as requested.
      • Provide monthly financial reports to each staff member and others who are responsible for managing budgets.
      • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
      • Prepare monthly financial statements, including adjusting journal entries. Process semi-monthly payroll and any special payrolls.
      • Review and maintain necessary computer payroll reports
      • Administer and communicate various employee benefit packages.
      • Distribute W-4s and I-9s.
      • Review and distribute annual W-2s and 1099s.
    • Administration
      • Represent CPC to establish bank and investment accounts, make investments and withdraw or transfer funds in accordance with the CPC bylaws and investment policy.
      • Work with the certified public accountant during the annual audit.
      • Annually review and renew CPC insurance policies.
      • Assist with long-range planning
      • Supervise purchasing and accounts payable processes and maintain effective controls.
  2. Facilities Administration
    • Work with the Board of Deacons to develop a schedule of equipment and facility maintenance inspections and service.
    • Perform regular oversight inspections of the facilities to help ensure that standards of safety, cleanliness, care, and maintenance, are being maintained by the Facilities Engineer.
    • Develop logs/reports, etc. to facilitate record keeping and reporting of problems.
    • Report regularly to the Board of Deacons and the Session.
  3. Vendor Contract Administration
    • Establish and maintain records of vendor and service contracts (e.g., landscape, Food service, copier equipment, vending machines, HVAC service, electricity, water, etc.).
    • Anticipate contract end dates and provide the appropriate governing body of the Church with vendor alternatives and competitive bids in a way that permits and Elicits intelligent participation in contract negotiations and decisions.
    • Develop and implement quality assurance checks of vendor and contract services to help ensure the church is receiving appropriate value for each contract.
  4. Human Resources
    • Administer policies under supervision of the Personnel Committee
    • Payroll supervision
    • Maintain and distribute the Employee Handbook to each new employee and to all employees annually as part of the annual employee benefits enrollment process. Assist senior staff in administration of HR related policies and practices. Develop all remuneration packages
    • Administer all employee-related benefits.
  5. General Administration
    • Work with staff, committee chairpersons, and other lay leadership to establish and implement church policies as directed by the Session.
    • Work with staff and committee chairpersons to determine facility equipment needs.
    • Supervise the purchase of facility equipment.
    • Oversee all church insurance policies, acquisition and claims reporting.
    • Maintain files of all legal documents of the church.
    • Attend annual training seminars/courses as approved by the Executive Director.
    • Maintain an all-church event calendar. Review upcoming events during weekly staff meetings and facility team meetings.
  6. Staff Supervision
    • Supervise the work of the Facilities Engineer, Hospitality Team, Church Accountant, and Front Desk. Conduct formal performance evaluations at least annually and assist in goal setting.
    • Prepare for and participate in an annual performance review with the Executive Director.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required – Preferred concentrations: Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
  • Equivalent work experience in business administration may be considered
  • Proven record of experience and skill in: Business administration & Management
  • Understanding of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations required
