Greenwood Christian School (GCS) is dedicated to providing a Christ-centered educational environment that glorifies God. Established over 40 years ago, GCS has expanded its offerings from kindergarten to include Pre-K and all elementary grades, along with daycare and summer camp programs. About the Executive Director
This pivotal role at Greenwood Christian School and Childcare Ministries (GCS) offers a unique opportunity for a visionary and spiritually driven leader to shape Christ-centered education from early childhood through elementary grades. The Executive Director will serve as the chief executive and spiritual guide, overseeing all operational, academic, and administrative functions. This position is ideal for an experienced professional passionate about fostering academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community engagement within a faith-based environment, collaborating closely with the School Management Team to ensure the fulfillment of GCS’s mission.

The Executive Director’s responsibilities include:
Spiritual Leadership and Development
- Maintain an active personal relationship with Christ and participate in Greenwood Christian Church.
- Provide spiritual leadership to the GCS community, fostering a Christ-centered culture.
- Encourage the spiritual development of students, staff, and parents.
- Oversee regular prayer and devotions, chapel, and spiritual enrichment opportunities for students and staff.
- Counsel staff, students, and parents in their relationship with Jesus.
Academic Program and Building Leadership
- Oversee and evaluate academic programs, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and goals.
- Ensure GCS programs and services meet or exceed school and/or accreditation standards.
- Oversee implementation of GCS goals and objectives for elementary, early childhood, and daycare programs.
- Provide executive oversight of the school and daycare curricula.
- Support efforts related to curriculum development, instructional methods, and professional development.
- Collaborate with the School Principal and Daycare Director to implement rules and regulations governing GCS.
- Collaborate with the School Principal, Daycare Director, and SMT to review and revise staff handbooks, policies, and procedures.
- Establish and coordinate GCS calendar in collaboration with administrative team and appropriate GCC staff
Financial Leadership
- Ensure financial sustainability through sound fiscal practices and strategic planning.
- Assist the SMT in establishing the budget and determining school and daycare tuition and fees.
- Collaborate with the School Principal, Daycare Director and Business Administrator to implement and manage a balanced yearly budget.
- Recommend staff salaries and working conditions.
- Review monthly financial reports and advise the SMT of any discrepancies.
Family and Community Engagement
- Partner with parents, providing encouragement, support, and regular communication through a variety of modes, including the school newsletter and GCS website.
- Foster a welcoming, grace-filled school community for families from diverse backgrounds.
- Serve as the school’s chief ambassador and primary spokesperson in public and private settings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, staff, alumni, local area schools, relevant organizations, and the broader community.
Fundraising and Development
- Promote the school to prospective families and support enrollment growth.
- Oversee programs designed for student retention and recruitment.
- Lead fundraising and development efforts, including donor relations and capital campaigns, to secure the financial resources necessary for growth and enhancement of school programs and to enrich the fiscal standing of GCS.
- Collaborate with the SMT to explore fundraising opportunities and obtain SMT approval for any major fundraising activities.
- Schedule and oversee approved fundraising initiatives that reflect the school’s mission.
- Explore and oversee applications for related grants to enhance GCS programs and address facility needs.
Facility and Operations Oversight
- Oversee daily school operations, including safety, facilities, and enrollment, and ensure licensing compliance (especially for the daycare program).
- Ensure GCS complies with all applicable health, safety, and educational regulations, with an emphasis on providing a safe and productive environment for students and staff.
- Establish appropriate facility safety measures in conjunction with the GCC Safety Team and the SMT.
- Partner with the Greenwood Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and attend applicable local area school safety organization meetings.
- Oversee execution of appropriate staff and student training and drills.
- Ensure the building and facilities are maintained in good condition, and work with maintenance personnel as needed.
- Determine the best use of the facility, including classroom space for the elementary, early childhood, and daycare, as well as other programs.
- Collaborate with the SMT on long-range planning for school facilities, personnel, and financial resources.
- Manage implementation of the GCS school improvement plan and ensure completion of tasks associated with the SMT project plan.
- Provide executive oversight for school and daycare inspections and audits and ensure completion of any required follow-up actions.
Personnel Management
- Provide overall management of GCS personnel and foster a culture of accountability, excellence, and service among staff.
- Oversee those supervising all programs, including but not limited to:
- Daycare
- Elementary School
- Before and After Care program
- Camps programs, including:
- Summer Camp – 7-8 weeks
- Fall Camp – 2 weeks
- Winter Camp – less than a week
- Spring Camp – 2 weeks
- Extracurricular programs, as applicable
- Supervise all administrative and non-instructional GCS staff members.
- Lead weekly staff meetings with all administrative staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide meaningful feedback to direct reports.
- Serve on the interview team for school and daycare vacancies.
- Partner with the School Principal or Daycare Director to handle any escalated issues or concerns as needed.
- Serve as the point-of-contact in the absence of the School Principal or Daycare Director.
Governance and Relations
- Serve as a liaison to and non-voting member of the SMT, advising on policy, procedures, and educational matters.
- Collaborate with the SMT on governance and to implement the school’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Attend all SMT meetings and provide timely updates on school operations, challenges and achievements, and key initiatives.
- Manage implementation of all directives issued by the SMT.
- Maintain a high profile by being visible and attending school events to build awareness, strengthen parent relations, and encourage support of GCS.
- Serve as the liaison between GCS and GCC.
- Participate in all pertinent GCC meetings, including but not limited to, All-Staff meetings, Ministry Staff meetings, and NexGen Ministry Team meetings.
- Foster and strengthen relationships between GCS and GCC.
- Maintain positive relationships and work closely with church resources on shared responsibilities and tasks, including maintenance, facilities, finances, and IT.
- Coordinate the use of shared facilities with GCC.
- Maintain a regular meeting with GCC Next Gen Team Lead
- Coordinate with the SMT Leader on providing quarterly updates to the GCC Elders.
- Ensure compliance with the following:
- any GCS policy/procedure requirements;
- any professional Christian organization requirements;
- the requirements of Indiana’s Choice School Voucher Program; and
- any applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Engage, collaborate, and represent GCS with individuals and groups outside of GCS and GCC when needed and maintain relationships with:
- the Indiana Department of Education;
- the Association of Christian Schools International;
- local law enforcement and fire departments; and
- other local schools and school-related organizations.


What you bring

Education and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- A master’s degree or higher in Education, Business Administration, Theological studies/Seminary, or a related field is strongly preferred
- 3+ years of educational administration experience

- Deep commitment to the integration of Christian faith and education, evidenced by personal faith and professional practice.
- Be a born-again follower of Christ with a demonstrated commitment to Christian education and in an evangelical church (and willing to be a member in good standing at Greenwood Christian Church).
- Be in agreement with GCC’s Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Statement. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others: show by example the importance of Scripture study and memorization, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ.
