In My Shoes is a faith-based nonprofit located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, dedicated to providing housing and support for women who are pregnant and homeless. Founded in 2016, In My Shoes offers a maternity home with 24/7 care, focusing on empowering women with emotional, educational, financial, and spiritual resources. We fulfill this mission through our core values of humility, dignity, and grit, and strive to “equip women for successful living” by meeting both their immediate and long-term needs. About the Executive Director
The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and oversee a dedicated team of 11 full-time and 2 part-time staff, including five direct reports. As a key leader of this organization, the Executive Director will be responsible for advancing the mission through strategic leadership, operational excellence, staff development, and resource generation. This role is vital to sustaining and growing the organization’s impact, and it requires a servant leader who can build upon the strong legacy of the founding director while leading In My Shoes (IMS) into a future of increased capacity, defined systems, and measurable outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a Christian leader with a deep passion for the mission and demonstrated experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, team leadership, and community engagement. They will bring a balance of strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and operational know-how, with the ability to lead prayer, inspire staff, and connect meaningfully with donors, volunteers, and the women IMS serves. Experience in social services, trauma-informed care, or working with underserved populations is a strong plus.

The Executive Director responsibilities include:
Mission & Strategy
- Lead and uphold the mission of In My Shoes: to provide shelter, support, and resources for pregnant and parenting women in need.
- Implement and oversee strategic plans that support long-term growth, program effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Enhance the organization’s public image through active community engagement and representation.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide vision, spiritual leadership, and daily support to staff and residents, modeling the values of humility, dignity, and grit.
- Hire, supervise, and develop staff; foster a culture of collaboration, high engagement, and operational excellence.
- Lead with vulnerability and authenticity, balancing the emotional demands of the work with professional leadership.
Operations & Program Oversight
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of the maternity home and related programs, ensuring quality care for moms and babies.
- Ensure systems, policies, and practices are in place for efficient, effective, and compassionate service delivery.
- Collaborate with staff and board to develop and refine a scalable operational model to support future growth or relocation.
Financial Management
- Manage the organization’s budget with fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Maintain accurate financial records, approve major expenditures, and oversee regular financial reporting to the board.
- Ensure maximum utilization of resources while maintaining a positive financial position.
Fundraising & Donor Relations
- Lead all fundraising initiatives, including donor cultivation, major gifts, grants, and events.
- Build strong relationships with donor base, as well as foundations and corporate sponsors.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase annual revenue and diversify funding sources.
Governance & Board Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and the Board of Directors.
- Provide timely, accurate reports to the board and involve them in strategic decision-making.
- Ensure board members are well-informed and actively engaged in supporting the mission.
Spiritual & Community Leadership
- Cultivate partnerships with churches, schools, and community organizations.
- Lead prayer during meetings and foster a faith-filled environment aligned with the organization’s Christian values.
- Serve as a visible, compassionate leader to residents, staff, volunteers, and the broader community.


What you bring
The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Executive Director:
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years in a comparable leadership position within a nonprofit, ministry, or mission-driven organization.
- At least 10 years of professional experience, ideally with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Proven fundraising and donor relations experience, including the ability to secure major gifts and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and grant providers.
- Demonstrated success in team leadership, including hiring, supervision, and staff development.
- Experience in strategic planning, program development, and operational oversight.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and engagement with diverse audiences.
- Deep commitment to the Christian faith and passion for the mission of serving pregnant and parenting women.
- Personal alignment with organizational values: humility, dignity, and grit.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Strong understanding of nonprofit management, fundraising, and trauma-informed care.
- Awareness of challenges faced by pregnant and parenting women experiencing homelessness a plus. es, including financial accounting software & church-related software.
- Visionary leadership with strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Proven ability in fundraising, relationship-building, and staff development.
- Proficient in budgeting and financial oversight.
