About the Next Gen & Families Pastor

The Next Gen & Families Pastor at First Baptist Bryan serves as the primary shepherd and leader for families with children from birth through high school. This Pastor partners closely with seasoned ministry leaders in Preschool, Kids, and Youth to provide vision, discipleship, and care for parents and children alike. He champions spiritual growth in the home, equips parents as disciple-makers, and creates environments where families can thrive in Christ. Rooted in Scripture and passionate about the gospel, the Next Gen and Families Pastor builds strong relationships, supports a vibrant church culture, and helps fulfill FBC Bryan’s mission: “To make Jesus Christ our all and to share Him with all.”

The Position’s responsibilities include:

The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, highlighting a need for a multi-faceted leader:

Ministry Development & Leadership

  • Setting goals, determining priorities, and establishing programs for Family Ministry.
  • Supervises the Director of Pre-School Ministry, Pastor of Children’s Ministry, Pastor of Youth’s Ministry, and a Part-time Administrative Assistant.
  • Provide mid-week educational and discipleship opportunities for families.
  • Give staff leadership to homeschool groups that use First Baptist Bryan’s facilities.
  • Planning and promoting fellowships, retreats, camps, seminars, unique events, and conferences, with examples like “Marriage Seminar or Conference,” “Parenting Seminar or Conference,” and “Family Camp or Retreat.”
  • Give leadership to families of all types (traditional families, families with adopted or foster children, blended families, etc.)..
  • Training, development, and mentoring staff assigned and all lay leadership in the assigned department.
  • Promoting leadership development to equip and empower congregation members and visitors for service.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborating with appropriate committees, teams, and church leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Department and social media staff in advertising ministry events.
  • Communicates annual, quarterly, and monthly events to All Staff
  • Financial Oversight Meeting with the Director of Finance and HR monthly to review expenses against the budget and ensure adherence to guidelines. 

Pastoral Care and General Ministry Duties

  • Assisting the Senior Pastor in meeting the congregation’s needs, including pastoral care plan development and implementation.
  • Making hospital visits, administering ordinances, conducting worship services, performing marriages, conducting funerals, and visiting the sick.
  • Assisting with preaching/teaching responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assisting the Executive Team with the Annual Church Plan and the annual expense budget process.

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Next Gen & Families Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required (B.A. or B.S.).
  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from an accredited seminary or theological school is preferred but not required.
  • Ministry accreditation is considered beneficial.
  • A minimum of 10 years of full-time pastoral experience is required.
  • Experience in family ministry is preferred.
  • Must have served in a similar-sized church with 2,000+ weekly attendance.
  • Must have a proven record of good moral conduct and proficiency in basic social work/counseling for crisis support.
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to engage the local community and support the ministries of FBC Bryan.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in Biblical theology with the ability to clearly teach and convey Biblical truth.
  • Solid understanding of family dynamics across various contexts (traditional, blended, adoptive, foster, etc.).
  • Familiarity with discipleship strategies for all ages, especially families with children from birth through high school.
  • Working knowledge of pastoral care, including crisis support and counseling basics.
  • Budget and expense management in a large church setting.
  • Experience with leadership development and ministry team structure.
  • Understanding of and alignment with FBC Bryan’s Mission Statement and doctrinal beliefs.

  • Spiritually mature and grounded in Scripture; relies on prayer in decision-making rather than just strategy.

  • Models a Christlike attitude in all interactions—gracious, dependable, composed, and trustworthy.
  • Maintains a healthy balance of personal growth, family life, and ministry responsibilities.
