Baptist Children's Homes Communications Director Meet Baptist Children's Homes:

The heart of Baptist Children’s Homes NC (BCH) beats with a rhythm of hope that extends to children, families, teen mothers, expectant moms, single mothers, intellectually/developmentally disabled adults, and aging adults throughout North Carolina and beyond. For each person’s specific need, the 138-year-old nonprofit offers a unique ministry ready to help. With more than three dozen locations in communities throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Guatemala, we are many ministries beating with one heart — the heartbeat of Jesus Christ.

BCH was born on November 11, 1885, when nine-year-old Mary Presson stepped off the train at the property in the small community of Thomasville, NC. Greeted by founder and longtime North Carolina Baptist John Haymes Mills. Mary became the first child admitted into the care of the Thomasville Orphanage as it was originally known.

Today, BCH has grown from its inaugural location into a sprawling organization. The nonprofit, which is fueled by charitable funding provided by churches and donors, has added a variety of services to offer help to those in need. 

About the CEO:

The CEO is responsible for executive leadership and management of all Baptist Children’s Homes NC programs.  The CEO will strengthen and advance the work of BCH by cultivating meaningful relationships with the staff, strategic partners, donors, and churches.  The CEO is devoted to sharing hope and changing lives in a Christ-honoring way that exemplifies transparency, integrity, and accountability.  The CEO will agree and uphold the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

BCH FamiliesThe CEO Responsibilities Include: 

  • Promotes and fosters BCH cooperation, collaboration, and positive relationships with NC churches, Southern Baptist denominations, and mission partners. 

  • Develop, execute, and manage  BCH’s short-term and long-term strategic goals.

  • Implement governing policies for all program services.

  • Provide regular KPI reports to the Board of Trustees.

  • Provide supervision and management for all agency work, and assumes no outside duties that interfere with administrative responsibilities.

  • Visionary and vision caster of the organization's strategic plans, growth, and direction.

  • Equip and empower department leaders to lead their teams effectively and relationally.

  • Oversight of the finances, budgeting, and management of a dynamic and multi-program nonprofit organization. 

  • Program team strategy with a pulse on trends and an eye toward growth.

  • Actively participate in fundraising for the Agency, maintaining positive donor relationships.

  • Respect the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of staff members and children in care and strive to create a positive relationship within BCH.

  • Participate in the agency’s Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program as needed.

  • Foster a staff culture that attracts, retains, and motivates top-quality staff and volunteers.

  • Provide direction and resources, remove barriers, and help develop employees’ skills articulating expectations and clarifying roles and relationships.

  • Anticipate conflicts and facilitate resolution.

  • Model spiritual maturing and servant leadership while coaching people to success.

  • Effectively engage with the Board of Trustees in both planned and unplanned settings.

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution in a field related to ministry, human services, or the equivalent

  • 5+ years of management/administrative experience in child care/family services or an equivalent related field

  • Experience leading a large, multi-faceted organization, preferably in the non-profit sector

  • Fundraising and major gift donor management experience
