FCC Nevada Church BuildingMeet First Christian Church Nevada:

In 1857, a group of 20 consecrated Christians met and organized the First Christian Church in Nevada, Missouri. Until the civil war, when they stopped meeting, they held meetings at the schoolhouse, the courthouse, or some other public hall. In 1878, they built a small white building on the site of the present location at the corner of Washington and Austin streets. This was used until 1897 when the need for a larger church was met with the construction of a brick building whose walls enclose the present House of Worship.

On May 25, 1947, First Christian Church celebrated its Golden Jubilee in an appropriate manner. Seventeen months later, in October 1948, a lightning storm played havoc and the structure was ravaged by fire leaving only a few stained-glass windows in the halls. Under the leadership of Pliney H. Elliot, Minister, the congregation did not miss a single service in the year it took to rebuild – debt-free.

The present building was dedicated on November 27, 1949. Through the years, First Christian Church has continued to be a beacon of hope in the city of Nevada, MO, and looks forward to reaching future generations by continuing to reach their community with the good news of Jesus Christ.
