St. Mark's Community Church Hires Lead Pastor

Pete Stearns Announcement

BURLINGTON, North Carolina - St. Mark’s Community Church in Burlington, North Carolina has expanded its leadership team by appointing Peter Stearns as their new Lead Pastor. St. Mark’s Community Church is a local church dedicated to making Jesus famous by becoming more like him. Their values consist of being a community that loves, lives, welcomes, journeys, serves, and engages like Jesus does.

Peter is a dedicated pastor with a calling to expand the Kingdom through the context of the local church. He has served in a variety of ministry roles by teaching, leading, and managing the church. He is committed to cultivating a forward-thinking ministry that engages the community and draws the congregation into a thriving relationship with Jesus. Peter is passionate about leading the church into a new season through thoughtful teaching, family-focused discipleship, and missional vision.

Jay Mitchell, Senior Executive Search Consultant shared, “during my first meeting with St Mark’s I thought of Pete Stearns as potentially a great fit there. His skill set, gifts, experience, and ministry approach seemed to be perfectly aligned with the needs of St Mark’s. As Pete prayerfully considered the opportunity, we moved forward with other candidates, but in the back of my mind, I couldn’t let go of the thought that Pete might be the right person to lead St Mark’s into this next season of ministry. Once Pete sensed God’s call and began engaging with the team at St. Mark’s it was clear that God was at work. I can’t wait to see how God uses Pete at St Mark’s church in the coming years!”

Peter and his wife of nine years, Brittany, along with their two sons - Shepherd (4) and Archer (20 months) are excited to be in North Carolina or “the up Carolina, not the down one” as Shepherd would say. They are eager to enjoy the parks in the area and serve the Burlington community. Pete and Brittany met at Wheaton College and quickly bonded over their love for ministry and desire to make disciples. We are delighted to be a part of Peter and his family joining the St. Marks Community and are eager to see the continued unfolding of God’s plan for this church and community.
